| forgot this one my dad put our brand new puppy on the veranda with a kind of short leash. he could reach the edge, so he jumped, expecting to reach the ground. guess what....
i bought a newt on a whim, but didn't want it after. i wanted to get rid of him in a more 'humanitarian' way (like killing it instantly), but my mother told me to "leave it alone". so i did. and it died. not sure if it was by starvation, or if it just drowned in it's own 'waste'. but it was fun cleaning out the tank after... |

| -Pet: Peachy the Budgerigar. She had a tumor that pressed on her spinal cord, so she had continuous and painful twitches. She was eventually put to sleep.
-Pet: Polly the Polyphemous Moth (Yeah, original, I know). I found her when she was still a (big freaking green) caterpillar, and took her home and put her in a margarine container and forgot about her. And then, a few weeks later, the margarine container began to walk, and I opened it to discover a giganitic brown moth with big, orange eyes on its wings. To say the least, I screamed and ran for my mother. But Polly had a nice life, until my little sister decided to show the moth to her third grade teacher. The stupid teacher decided that the moth "wanted a drink", so she put water in Polly's jar. The water ate up Polly's wings, and she died.
-Goldeneye the Goldfish. Died of unknown causes, although he was probably scared to death by his tankmate.
-Rocky the Goldfish. Filled with remorse over the death of both of his tankmates, Rocky grew depressed, and eventually tried to kill himself by cramming his little goldfish body into the filter tube. I saved him, only to have him die three weeks later while cleaning his tank. I put him in some water, and a little after, he was belly-up. So, I put him in the toilet to destroy the evidence send him to the Big Fishtank in the sky. However, just before I was going to flush, I noticed that he was swimming quite happily in the toilet bowl. So I finished cleaning his tank and put him back in. He was dead by the next morning.
-Bullwinkle the Goldfish. Cause of death: Unknown, but foul play suspected. |

Gerbil 1- Splinters: We got him a friend, Gerbilina. They were nice gerbils. One day, we made a maze for them to run in out of encyclopedias turned on their ends. I jumped over the maze to go to the kitchen, and landed on Splinters' head. Blood stains were still on the encyclopedias when we sold them at a garage sale 10 years later Splinters wasn't dead, though. He was dying, so my mom had to establish what has become a long tradition in our house: The Hammer of Merciful Death. It used to be my hammer that I got for Christmas when I was a kid. Now, it is used only for the killing of animals.
Gerbil 2- Tunnels: Gerbilina's second husband. Strange that they never had kids. I don't know what happened to him. But he died.
Gerbil 3- Gerbilina: Her claws got too long so that she could no longer hold food in her hands, and she starved to death. We didn't know her claws were too long, because we were stupid little kids.
The Best Dog Ever: Scarlett. Wonderful miniature schnauzer. She lived 14 years, and then had a stroke. We put her to sleep and buried her on the Church property.
An infinite procession of small furry, scaled or feathered animals: Laid to rest by the Hammer of Merciful Death. They are the quarry of Moo Moo Kitty, who enjoys the mutilation of, but not the killing of, birds, snakes, lizards, mice, et cetera. After death, they are tossed over the fence. Oh, and by the way, Moo Moo Kitty doesn't always leave them alive. Sometimes, she eats them. If you find a circle of feathers in the grass, it is probably ejecta from a plucking session. She doesn't eat the feathers.
Hamster: Jam Jam. A gift to me by a junior higher at the church in Longview where I was youth minister. Jam Jam was an unusual hamster. She was terrified of everything except the cat, which the cat enjoyed, and I couldn't get her those tunnel attachments for the cage, because she would then live in the tunnels and only come out to drink. She lived in her own waste. So, I got rid of the tunnels and put her in her ball a lot. She liked that. My dad really got attached to that stupid $8 mouse wannabe. One day, she lost her hair. I took her to the vet and spent $40 to find out that the $8 hamster didn't have mainge. The vet was impressed. Most people, when an $8 animal starts to get sick, would probably unveil the Hammer of Merciful Death. Not me. Anyway, the vet suggested that we wait a few weeks. We did. She got better, then worse. One day, she was very, very weak. I determined to take her to the vet the next day. That evening, she was laying very still in the cage. My sister, home from college, told me to touch her and find out if she was dead. I said there was no way! We got my mom, a nurse, to do it. She picked her up and said, "She's cold. She's gone. She's been gone for a while now." We buried her in the back yard. I presided over the service wherein we thanked God for her life and prayed that my brother's finals went well, or something. My dad was too broken up to attend.

| I forgot about the two parakeets we had after we first got married. We had a solid white one, Casper, and a blue one, Jules, after Verne.
Casper was a mean little fart and wouldn't let Jules eat. By the time we figured out what was going on Jules was dead. Casper soon vacated the house. Then we got Iggy the iguana. he didn't die on us, but was a very moddy little reptile. He vacated our humble abode as well. That left us with BayBay, our cat, who I have already mentioned. |

| ok, umm...this is gonna be sad and I already know I probably won't even remember all the animals we've had that have died.
one milking goat, one kid: eaten by a mountain lion
one milking goat: died after giving birth
one small beagle sized golden female puppy ("Hero"): ate rat poison and died
one Siamese colored but mutt cat ("Salt"): went insane (literally) after giving birth and had to be put down through suffocation
one female tabby cat ("Shadrach"): old cat, moved with us from the city to the country, lost after a few months...presumably eaten by coyotes
one male black and white tabby (""): wandered away, never came back, presumably eaten
miscellaneous other tabby cats (probably as many as 6 over several years): wandered off, presumably eaten
two male dogs...german shepherd/chow mix ("Prince" and "Bear"): got loose from chains, chased down and killed various animals, consequently shot and disposed of by my dad
male peacock (can't remember the name): chased away by above-mentioned dogs, never seen again
two or three rabbits: worried to death through their cages by above-mentioned dogs
a dozen chickens: killed by dogs
a dozen chickens: died of coccidiosis (or something)
male shelty dog ("Lassie"): became impacted in the bowel region once, cleaned up at the vet, happened again and developed a tumor down there and had to be put down
and there are probably some others I'm missing...some other rabbits, and I know one or two other goats (like the one we slaughtered), and maybe some chickens...we're BAD farmers (not that we ever seriously tried, thank God...I love the country but hate caring for farm animals). |

We live on 34 acres in the Sierra foothills/mountains. We don't have a farm, but we've got the right outbuildings and enough space for keeping farm animals. So my parents tried it out with goats and chickens and rabbits for a while...and finally, thankfully, gave up.
So we just have a dog and a couple cats now. |

| Awww.... some of these stories are so sad.
Unh...I used to have a female cat named "Tux" when I was seven... (we named her 'tux" cause the patterns of her fur looked like a tuxedo (sp?)
Just one day she scrached through some wire, left into the woods, and came back with some sort of bee sting in her eye. She died a few days after. |

| hmmm, let's see..
My first kitten died of a cold when I was 4.
my hamster got out of it's cage and made it's way out of the house and I'm sure it was a tasting treat for one of the neighborhood cats.
My ferrets dies because my mom put them outside in their cage without my knowledge and they died of heatstroke.....I was heartbroken.
And two months ago my Great Dane was hit by a car.
how sad
