| I have a question... I know this is a little late... but what is hapa? I thought it had something to do with napa valley or something... but now I have no idea. And yeah, you probably have like a new admirer in whoever owned that guitar... I know whenever I actually see a girl pick up a guitar and start playing something, it makes me like but in a happy way. Jonah 33 Rocks!!! sorry... had to add that. |

I picked up the word in high school from a hapa friend myself. She had to edjamacate me.
Hapa refers to my race... it simply means half Asian. In my case, it happens to be Chinese and Caucasian. But not all hapas are asian/white... in fact, the word began as an insult in Hawaii for someone who was half asian- usually Japanese, on the island- and half white. But these days, it simply means part asian and part non-asian. It could be like Kristin Kreuk from Smallville- Chinese/Dutch- or Kelly Hu- Chinese/Hawaiian/(a little) white- or Michelle Branch- Indonesian/French/Irish- or..... (hmm lemme list some guys too- Dean Cain, Keanu Reeves, Rob Schneider, The Rock... to name a few.) The list goes on and on... I subscribe to a yahoo group for hapas... their website is www.hapas.com if you're interested to see who else they listed. Quote: |

Still don't really know him... hmm. *wonders*
Actually, it was a great opportunity for me to talk a bit with that guy Kelvin.... see, you kno how it is in HS when you know who ppl are but you don't actually know them...? Well he went ahead and introduced himself and he talked about how he wanted to learn guitar. (I think most of the ppl from their group wouldn't mind knowing a couple of riffs! But I digress.) So I got to share that I've only been playing for a little over a year and I'm about 90% self-taught, thanks to the internet. Gotta love this thing. I told him about the site www.WholeNote.com which is where I got most of my info... I didn't get around to talking abt CGR tho. Or my little breakthru performance Friday but it's ok, there's always tomorrow.
so....... um......... that's about it....... Update: Drats! Just got an 88.3% on a quiz for my online chem class. I accidently changed an answer... that's why not the 90% I was about to get. Oh well.
Anyone on now & wanna chat in blog? al dente! (see previous day's blog entry!) -Rachel

| Awww shmanx! *feelin the love!*
So....
Cafe night last night. WHEW! it's OVER! Eeesh... chaos. At first, the grrl group I was a part of- we were going third and I was going fourth, right? So I talked about what I was going to do up there with EB, the guy who was half-way organizing everything, and he ends up switching it sos I'm last. Well....... I guess it's sort of a compliment in a way, b/c I have a theory that ppl remember the last things first... but oh man! Prolonging the torture! Argh! I couldn't eat a single thing until after I'd finally finished... and then I couldn't finish the 1/2 of a chocolate muffin b/c they were cleaning up. So much for paying my $2 for the food... I didn't get any of it!!
Oh well... I had probably the hardest job... see, God had been placing it on my heart to just full-out share for that night. So I did... I played A Little More, then yakked for maybe 3-6 minutes, iono how long exactly- you lose track of time when you have lights on you and a mic in front of you. But what I shared about was the two parts of the song that spoke the most to me- the first 2 lines in the chorus: "Show me grace, I know it's/ A little more than I can give/ A little more than I deserve" and the first two lines of the second verse: "For all the sin that lives in me / It took a nail to set me free". *ahem* Can you say, Preach it!? *ahem* Heh.... so I did. I shared the meaning of grace (as found in my concordance) and the meaning of that nail... then led into the song I wrote, which has a line I took from Mark 9:24, when the man asked Jesus to please heal his son- "If you can" and then after Jesus' reply that all things are possible to those who believe, said, "Lord, I do believe; help my unbelief!" Well the line in my song goes: "Lord, hear my prayer/Help my unbelief/I know you want to free me". I'm kind of a blank on 90% of what I said last night but I do remember saying this after reading that story and specific verse: "Maybe you do believe tonight... but you just need a little help with your unbelief." I'm just praying/hoping that didn't fall on deaf ears... we had a LOT of new guests and I'm fairly sure there were some non-Christians there.
Based on feedback, everyone thinks I did "really good".... so I just hope that means they were really listening. We shall see tomorrow... if any of the guests come back loaded with questions.
hmm....... what else....
I plan on bringing my acoustic on Tues... to trade riffs w/ Greg or just in case he forgets his... or "forgets" to bring his, whichever. Better bring some alcohol wipes too, since Evan and Zennis will no doubt be putting their grubby hands on my baby. Hehe.
Ok iono what else... Happy Vday if you believe in this Hallmark Holiday... but it's really the celebration of the beheading of the patron saint of plague... Roses and candy hearts for all!
Ok, I'm out like trout! payce

| Awesome! I have been jammin to that CD since yesterday, when I kinda ganked it from the youth group collection. Jennifer Knapp makes me go in a good way .
Also, thanks for the explination... it is kinda like how we call half mexicans "whitesicans" ... but what would a half chinese-half mexican be? Hapasican? That sounds cool. Anyway, happy way late valentines day, and be glad you didn't have to work until 2 in the morning that day .

I personally wouldn't call them that... just b/c the term "hapa" already includes them. Hapa means part Asian... so that counts in my book. Quote: |

The best part abt that day is that the next day, all the candy is 50% off! Target was heaven. I gotta giant chocolate Kiss. Half off! Whoo.... *it must be luv...*
Umm..... Whassup? lol... my swimming teacher said that to me today... He is roughly middle-aged and has a heavy Russian accent so it was extremely amusing to hear him say that. But I couldn't go into the water today... being a girl and all... some of you may get it. If you don't, plz don't ask. So he came up and asked abt it, and then said, "Ok, bye. See you Thursday." So I had an extra hour to kill today, on top of my already long hour-and-a-half lunch break. And no guitar either... it rained today, and was reallyreally windy, so I wasn't about to lug my gig bag around with me. Hopefully it will go away by Thursday, like the weatherpeople are promising, and then I can bring my baby and wow the guys. Even tho u kno I'm not bringing it just for them. Truly. Honestly. I swear. Really.
Astrnomy class was pretty cool today. We studied Einstein's postulates of subjective relativity w/o the crazy mathiness. Sweet. Oh and I got a Western Civ test Thurs... gonna be killer. I should probably study. (Operative word: should. I doubt I'll seriously study... much.)
Ummmmmmm iono what else... Buh-bye!

Wow away... it is cool, guys love being wowed... as long as you don't write a song about them or something. See... when a guitar playing guy sees a girl pick up a guitar it is like ... then when she actually knows what she is doing, it is like ... and then when he is a christian, and she is a christian who comes out singing songs she wrote (which you should most definately do)... it is ... yay ! |

I do think Greg was sufficiently wowed. Some "official" introductions finally took place... See, many of the ppl that hang out in that area kno each other by face, but not by name, so it's not totally uncommon to talk to someone for half a semester, or even a whole semester, and not know their name! How funny is that. But some of the guys nearby were introducing themselves when they were abt to leave for class or to go eat or whatever, so I was like, "Ok, you're ___, you're ___, and Guitar-man here (pointing to Greg) is...?" (Even tho I already knew his name b/c someone had used it. )
Yesterday was fun at lunchtime. No swimming again, for the same reason... so I had extra time to kill once more. Greg brought his electric again, and I had my acoustic this time. Evan and Greg and I were jamming it up, but Greg was kinda scared to touch my acoustic, saying he'd just mess it up. See, I went and blabbed that my baby cost me $200... so he got kinda scared to ruin my baby, since he'd paid only abt $100 for his used one that he got from a friend. But oh... his guitar rox... not b/c it's hecka good or anything, but b/c it's electric and it's black. BLACK! Wah... I'm in heaven. I think most guitarists have a penchant for black guitars. My friend, Kathleen, has a black, THIN acoustic (lucky girl), and everytime she brings *her* to fellowship, our other friend Simon hogs her. Darn boi... MAn I can't get over how THIN her guitar is... other than that, black's cool but iono about one for myself. I kinda-sorta want my electric that I'm eventually gonna get to be red. Red with some leeetle sparkly thingies....
Choppa/Josh insists that I have a crush on Greg... but i dunno... lol. I still consider myself in a transition from **** to freedom... but it could very well be that I'm just gonna fall for Greg in the end. I mean hey, he's cute... and he is hapa, I got confirmation when I cheered "Yeah hapas! Half-Asian pride!" and got a "Yeah!" outta him... Unfortunately he has a bit of Potty-Mouth Syndrome going there... HAHA would that be male PMS?! But anyway, Josh insists this b/c I insist that his pic of himself with the snowboarding gear and goggles looked like a Korean version of Greg! I swear, it does!
Funny how bringing a guitar to school gets you noticed. Finally some of the other girls found the courage to introduce themselves... and these are ppl I went to school with, I knew they were around, but I guess they didn't kno me, even though we had a bunch of friends in common. Well, some of them I didn't really know tho, some of them went to one of my HS's rival schools, and I'm sure we all know ppl in common but we just didn't really kno each other. Plus there were some other funny goings-on yesterday.... I mean, we were all just sitting around, chilling, and I was jamming a bit with some Michelle Branch tunes, and this guy comes up to me and asks if I write music, then hands me a flyer. Something about a Bay Area musicians website... I guess it's like a forum, but just for local musicians and promoting them. Haven't looked at the site yet. Don't kno if I ever will... I mean, my band ministry leader's brother is a manager/producer who's worked with some local talent b4, so if I reeeeaallyreeeaaally wanted to jump into the scene, I could do so quite easily... it's just that I don't wanna use the poor guy. Oh, and about an hour later, after a bored spell and after a few more ppl came over to spend their lunch break, I pulled out my guitar again and played a bit, and shortly thereafter a couple of guys with backpacks in the shape of Red Bull cans came over and everyone got a free can of Red Bull from them. One of 'em said "The music was calling me...." Whatever. More like, a chance to chat with a guitar-wielding girl was calling them... Nice try.
Ok, that's all folks!

"Male PMS" not funny? awww.... Yea I think he smokes too... both are major downers. Too bad... that guy don't look too bad, but those are two things I just don't wanna deal with.... Oh well. And it's not like he's been responding anyway... or maybe it's just that I STILL can't read guy's signals... which I totally can't...
*huge sigh*
My family is gonna go see The Passion Of The Christ this weekend! We Fandango-ed three tickets just a few minutes ago for 7pm Saturday night. Maybe it'll be an opportunity to get both of 'em to go back to church... see, my mom's Charismatic Catholic, if anything really, and my dad's more of Baptist. At least he was the last time he went to a church. And me... As Rich says, I'm "Bapticostal." I don't know what denomination I am, really. Just "Christian" is good enough for me. But anyway...
The last time my dad attended a church, he was the main musician for this little Baptist church about a couple of blocks from our house. And my mom... well, she hasn't found a protestant church she reallyreally digs on as of yet, so no go for her either. Neither one of 'em's been to church regularly in years..... so I'm currently the only one in my household attending my church. Kinda hard on me. *sigh*
Um ok I don't wanna type in here anymore. Buh-bye.
