I THINK EQ -ING IS A PARTIAL SOLUTION. W/O SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY, I WOULD SAMPLE SOME PASSIVE PICKUPS THAT WILL FIT STOCK TO YOUR GUITAR (CHECK MUSICIANS FRIEND CATALOG) AND SWITCH TO A HEAVIER GAUGE STRING. I ALSO USE THE OD2 AND IT'S A NATURALLY HIGHER END PEDAL. MAYBE TRY A DIFFERENT PREAMP OR PEDAL. CHRIST BE W/ YOU

I THINK EQ-ING WILL ONLY GET YOU SO FAR. I RECOMMEND TRYING HEAVIER STRINGS THEN GO TO THE MORE COSTLIER ITEMS LIKE A PASSIVE PICK- UP MADE TO FIT YOU GUITAR W/O HAVING TO HACK IT UP(ACTIVE PICKUPS ARE PRONE TO HAVE A LOT OF HIGHS) I SUGGEST LOOKING IN MUSICIANS FRIEND MAG. AND THE OD2 (I ALSO USE THIS PEDAL) HAS A HIGH END DISTORTION ANYWAY, MAYBE SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT PREAMP. CHRIST BE W/ YOU

if it is a standard then according to the website it has
neck pikcup: 490R Alnico magnet humbucker
Bridge Pickup: 498T Alnico magnet humbucker
I'm pretty sure they didn't have those specific pickups back then. They are probably very close to what would be considered the PAF variety, which, as humbucks go is not a real "heavy" pickup.

Yeah, the PAF's. You might also want to get a signal boost if you want it to sound heavier.

I checked out the gibson website, and it looks like a sg standard, although mine doen'st have the trapazoid inlays, it has the regualr dots on a darker rosewood (perhaps mahogony) fretboard.
BTW- That's probably an ebony fretboard

But these vintage guitar buyers are even worried if the guitar has the original factory solder! If you don't want the guitar's value to go down, don't mess with it. If you frankly don't care about resale value, then go ahead, hot-rod that guitar to your heart's desire!

yeah keep the original pickups because your resale value will go down and that just sucks. What about your amp?

I have a Marshall MG100DFX
I also use a Zoom GXF 707 pedal but I much prefer the Marshall distortion.

It would be a large benifit to me if I could get some good advice on it. I absolutly love this guitar and I hate having to neglect it's use durring preformance because it just sounds too trebley...

thanks!

Turn your bass up around 9-10, mids around 8-9 and treble to 4-5. Also turn your tone knob down to around 4 or 5 to. Hope that helps.

Just turn your treble down and edge back your tone knobs. What do you mean your amp is set up for a bass? Are you using a bass amp? That could be why it sounds trebly and tinny because your guitar isn't producing enough low end to thump that honkin bass speaker.

All I ment by that is that I use my marshall and feed the line out to a Powered GBX Bass cabinet 4X10"

However, I just use the amp now because my brother is useing the bass amp for his bass.

I'll try the other stuff, thanks,
