understanding The Scarlet Letter!? i dont get any of this old english!

i really need help, if u know anything on it or cliff note sites that would help and i would appreiciate it!

like whats the point of the book the freakin old english sometimes doesnt make sense

www.sparknotes.com is a great (and free!) cliff notes-esque site.

I read this book for pleasure when I was in 7th grade (yeah, I know, I'm a nerd), and then for school last year. If you have any specific questions I'd be glad to help

Yeah the whole thing is the parqadoxical nature of society. It's interesting how the society views the forest as bad, but that is where a lot of the good from Hester comes out, versus the society views themselves as good, but they persecute her. I know a lot about the boook as I have analyzed it in AP English. You have to remmeber Hawthorne wrote this a while ago, and that is why it is archaic. The main point of the book, is to make people think if what Hester did was a sin. I could go into a lot more detail, but I'll wait to see your questions. I actually liked The Scarlet Letter. It shows that no one is expemt from sin..and that secrets cannot be held(for long). It's interesting how society has a major role in Hester's life, which relates to the time period of the book and to compare it to the way society acts in the lives of people to today. There are many different angles you can look at the novel through. I don't know if that helps, but I tried. And just a tip in case you're taking the AP test...get used to the old writing cause they may spring it on ya for either parts of the test. So you might want to study the language of the SCarlet Letter to get a better feel for older writing and language.
