Trey Anastasio

How many people have heard of Trey Anastasio? He's the guitarist for Phish, and he's insane-o. I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has heard of him...

TREY!!!!!

Totally RULZ!!!!!!

One of the best guitarists, story-tellers, vocalists, and visionaries of all time!!

And totally, totally underrated!!! But then, so's Phish. Shame.

I saw them live several years ago. Incredible.

He has the look and feel of a total geek, like Bill Gates' younger brother of something, but he is actually way, tres cool. Geek Sheek, perhaps?

I think most guitarists on here know who he is. Interestingly, I got into Trey when he was working with Les Claypool's band Oysterhead. Most memorable from that is the obnoxious guitar with deer antlers on it that Trey played! It was called The Matterhorn and Trey could change the pitch by turning the deer antlers!

Check out Oysterhead's cd, The Grand Pecking Order. Trey, Les, and the Stewart Copeland, the drummer from the Police, make up the band, and they're great. I love that cd.

It's sweet to know that at least some people are familiar with someone who I think is one of the greatest guitar players in terms of incorporating technical, compositional, improvisational, and emotional aspects in his playing. I really think that he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

Have you seen pictures of him when he was younger? Check these two out...one's from 1990, and one's from 1985. He's the red-head in the one on the right.

Yeah dude, they're definitely awesome and have one of the most unique sounds that I've ever heard. Some of their songs are a little too trippy for my tastes (it's Les Claypool after all), but they definitely have some sick tunes on that cd.

yeah he really is good, Phish has been one of my favorite bands for a long time now. I really love his sound, I try to recreate some of his sounds, stuff like the intro riff on "Free" or "simple", "Chalk dust Torture" is really good as well. The band as a whole is really one of the best around, they could go out on stage on any given night and play better and more cohesively than any other out there right now.

NO WAY!!! That's so awesome...Dave and Trey and Tim Reynolds, that should be the sweetest show ever. The one thing is that Trey tends to not go as crazy when he's not playing with Phish, he's more content to sit back and play rhythm and chords. Hopefully he'll rip some solos with Tim that'll be insane. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a recording of this show from someone, hopefully they'll allow tapers.

I'm happy for you dude, that's gonna be an awesome show.

There's little more I desire than to see a Dave & Friends show. They covered Solsbury Hill tonight.

I can't say much about Trey that hasn't been said. He's probably my favorite guitar soloist. His tone is nothing short of perfect, IMO. It's late, but I may have to pop in some Phish or Trey Anastasio Band.
