| Jason's vs Marcos's guitar playing This was in the Satellite review thread, and it was definitely going off topic, and shoed no signs of quitting. So per Sean's.....suggestion, I figured I'd start a thread here.
guitarman_888 says:
The new guitarist(Truby) is awesome, but he tried to hard to replace Marcos. I mean on Eternal, that was the type of thing that Marcos did. But Truby tried to hard to make one of those instumental/fillers. I respect the opinion of anyone who thinks the new cd is better. However, POD has changed dramaticly from their other albums. I do hope that POD goes more hardcore on their next cd like they were on their previous one's.
My reply in a new post.
~Jon

| What I said:
WHAT?! Truby in no way whatsoever tried to replace Marcos, at all. It's more of Truby's thing, actually, to do an instrumental like Eternal. Seriously, Jason is a much more talented guitarist than Curiel.

| Then THIS is what sixzirens said (I'm putting these in separate posts to get red of possible confusion.
i beg to differ with jon here....i have been listening to Living Sacrifice,Jason Truby's old band for those who dont know, for years; correct me if i am wrong, but i dont recall any instrumentals truby did with them. personally i think marcos and truby are both fantastic players, but i dont think marcos always played to his own potential. listen to some of the solos on the live album; they are much better than anything marcos played after they rose from the underground.
on another subject, i think truby's playing went downhill on Payable on Death. he was a much more technical player when in Living Sacrifice. now it's all straightforward, radio-friendly stuff. almost sad.
one love, Warriors

| I dunno if he did any instrumentals with them. Maybe Angela or Matt knows.
Jason Truby was 17 when he was in LS. Since then, he's gone on and studied a lot more about gutiars. He's become a much more skilled guitarist since then, IMO, so comparing him to when he played in LS is really moot. Quote: |

| The only songs I can think of that are not radio friendly are
Wildfire, Asthma, and Eternal (obviously). The rest are catchier and sound more like the stuff you hear on the radio.
As far as Truby vs. Marcos. I like both. Marcos was all about simplicity. If you look at some of his best work like the song Messenjah the chorus is just 3 power chords. Truby is everywhere, on songs like Change the World, his various chord structures make the song. I think Truby is definitely more talented, but I like Marcos a lot.
I think the next album will take POD to another level (like they thought this one would) and Truby's playing will be obviously great. |

| i like both but i think i like the songs pod used to play a little better so i dont know how to compare them untill i hear jason play one of their older songs from satellite or southtown then it will be a lot easier to compare them.

Keyphrase is "after they rose from the underground." Marcos kicked everyone's frikin glutius max @ guitar. I loved his crunchiness and then the smooth acoustics whenever he did them...they were just so tasteful. Quote: |

There is "Presence of God" is an acoustic instrumental on Reborn. Other than that, I can't say I recall something like Eternal.

The fact that it was an instrumental, the style it was in, or the way it was played?

| eternal is an awesome song, regardless of why truby did it. Personally, i think truby is alot better than marcos, though i liked marcos' influence on the band better. they were much better when they had a harder edge to them, the new album was just too soft for me. |

| I don't like P.O.D. BUT Truby is a better player from what I have heard.
