Leading worship for the first time

Friday night my high school Sunday school class is having a lockin. Before the lockin we are going to a secret (to us) place and I'm going to lead worship in 30 degree weather. I know people won't be too thrilled since it will be 20 degrees but I'm hoping it will go well. I'm super nervous as it's just going to be me playing my acoustic guitar, and singing, and two of my friends singing since they are 90x better than I. I need prayer and advice in general. Any tips on mistakes newbies make? Any fairly easy christmas songs (IE, anything not in F) that would be good worship songs as well?

ummm...if its 20 degrees out...and your playing outside...pray for your guitar

besides that, pray.

don't get too caught up in music to forget that its worship. most people won't know if you screw up musically, so just give the glory to God and focus on Him alone.

Heeh, it's gonna be more around 40 degrees but I'll still be praying ol' cecilla doesn't crack. I played it outside last night for a little bit but I know as soon as I'm done leading worship, that guitar is going in the warmest place possible (Unless there is a fire, I'm not throwing my guitar in there)

Here's a great site that has several carols in guitar-friendly keys.

But if you're really outdoors during a lock-in (does that make it a Lock Out?), I wouldn't set overly high expectations for "worship" at the event. Just my oppinion, but they're going to be thinking about getting warm, or just having fun, and that's okay. We don't have to declare a singing as "worship" every time we get together, especially for "fun" events like lock-ins.

And I would be quite concerned about playing your guitar in such cold weather. Is it possible to play something else?

I only know how to play guitar... unless I take my electric, my amp and an extension cable the acoustic is my only solution. The Lockin part doesn't start until midnight, when we get back from whereever we are going so it is a lockin

I've got anti-pride unforutnatly, I think my guitar & vocal abilities suck. I know I need God to lead worship. If I didn't need God, there would be no point at all

(excuse my comments as I just woke up, and am very sleepy. I don't think I made a comprehendable sentence

you made sense to me. don't worry about it. as somebody has already mentioned, most people don't notice the musical mistakes you'll make. you'll end up noticing the smallest, most insignificant things, and you'll feel like you made a fool of yourself, but trust me....they don't notice hardly any of it. unless you're singing in a different key than you're playing or something like that. lol. they don't notice much....

singing with the flu...that's tough. your nose is stuffed up, so you can't breathe through it. you're coughing, your voice is squeaking, your throat is always dry for some strange reason, your head hurts, stomach hurts, and it's almost like you're half stoned in some strange way. i had to lead a few times like that a few months ago. wasn't easy, but God helped me through it. anyone else ever have that kind of experience?

Hi I am new here and came across this thread on leading praise and worship. I to have had to lead worship and yes it is hard to lead with a cold. Only last night I had to help with the kids in my church to sing christmas songs and was having trouble hearing because this cold affects my hearing(Iwear hearing aids by the way in both ears, born with deafenness). But as always it all worked out.
