With an added D it would be G5 (i think).

An added C would be Gsus4 if I'm not mistaken.

G5? Are you guys talking about powerchords (just the tonic [1] and the 5th [5])?

G5 = G powerchord, i.e. a G Major triad without the B (3rd).

G/D = G Major, with a D in the bass position.

I wasn't referring to powerchords, but that would be the (albeit incorrectly notated) G5.

I was thinking of using this fingering 320003 and adding 320033 but I couldn't think of a name for it, so I just said G5 cuz you're adding the 5th, no?

G/D on the other hand is xx0003 and wasn't what I was thinking of.

Oh, well, heads-up on that one: X5 is the new designation for powerchords. As in G5 for a G powerchord, A5, E5, and so on.

If you want to put a non-tonic tone in the bass, then add a note after a slash. G/D, and so on.

Cool?

but adding the second D wouldn't be doing any thing different but taking out the b which is in there in the first place so isn't it still a G maj

Yeah, yeah. I was just trying to be intelligent. Didn't work too well, lol.

And Yeah, I know the X5 is the new "standard" but I generally don't use it that often.

And I also know a non-tonic bass note is X/X.

And, it must just be an alternate voicing of Gmaj then that I'm thinking of.

Please resume your originally scheduled thread.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned 2chords.

A2: X07600
I figured out a new arrangement of Agnus Dei based around it.
I like this one a lot: C2(no3rd) X35533

And I play this one every chance I get:
F2(no3rd): 133011
or F2maj7: 133010 (gotta hook that thumb for the E string though)

G2: 3X0233 or 3x0230

The happiest chord ever: 024300 Emaj2

I guess these could be called Major 9ths too?

I am also a lover of Asus2, normally called in my experience just A2. I also love x42200 and x46600, possibly C#m7 and Bsus...I can't remember.

i've typiccally used that first one in place of an A. Asus2/C#. in that form you've got C# E A B E and unless i'm mistaken you need it to be a Bb and an Eb to make a true m7 chord.

the 2nd is the one i someimtes use in place of a C#m or m7.
