audio technica wireless??

Hey guys, I'm looking to go wireless.

What do you guys think of audio technica wireless systems? Has anybody ever heard of them/used them/like them? They are one of the cheaper ones as opposed to Shure wireless....

any input would be grand,
thank you,
-Deren

I've had mixed results with Audio Technica stuff...some of it is pretty nice, but some of their cheaper systems are really bad. I forget what the model number was, but it was one of their low-priced models, but I got so much interferance that it was unusable (I didn't get the same result with a different wireless, so it wasn't just the area).

As far as I'm concerned, Audio Technica's stuff is prettly lame...regardless of how much money you spend (incidentally aside from being a musician for 15 years, I've been a sound man for 10 of those).

If you want wireless, you'll need to drop enough money on it to get something good. Which means even bypassing Shure's bottom-end stuff. I say go for Shure, but go at least middle of the road or better--like an SM58 Wireless handheld, for example. I guarantee that you'll be happy with the range, clarity, and sound quality of that mic. Shure even makes wireless instrumental units, which are excellent...but expensive.

The problem with bottom-end equipment is primarily with range. You have different range depending on UHF or VHF. Also, you'll get better sound quality with the mid-level or high end equipment. For example my worship leader is using a bottom end Sure wireless headset mic, and we have to have the receiver 5 feet away from him so that it doesn't cut out.

So there you go, you get what you pay for. If you don't want to upgrade equipment in 6 months to a year, bite the bullet now and buy the good stuff.
