| As far as I'm concerned, Audio Technica's stuff is prettly lame...regardless of how much money you spend (incidentally aside from being a musician for 15 years, I've been a sound man for 10 of those).
If you want wireless, you'll need to drop enough money on it to get something good. Which means even bypassing Shure's bottom-end stuff. I say go for Shure, but go at least middle of the road or better--like an SM58 Wireless handheld, for example. I guarantee that you'll be happy with the range, clarity, and sound quality of that mic. Shure even makes wireless instrumental units, which are excellent...but expensive.
The problem with bottom-end equipment is primarily with range. You have different range depending on UHF or VHF. Also, you'll get better sound quality with the mid-level or high end equipment. For example my worship leader is using a bottom end Sure wireless headset mic, and we have to have the receiver 5 feet away from him so that it doesn't cut out.
So there you go, you get what you pay for. If you don't want to upgrade equipment in 6 months to a year, bite the bullet now and buy the good stuff. |
