Michael W. Smith recently wrapped his highly successful “Celebration Tour” and readies for another concert run that already reports dramatic sales momentum. The “Christmastime Tour” will visit 15 cities throughout Nov. and Dec., launching in Duluth, Ga., and wrapping in Smith’s hometown of Nashville, Tenn.
The “Christmastime Tour” will usher in the holiday spirit, as Smith performs perennial favorites with special guests Point of Grace and The Katinas. “I love this time of year, and I especially love Christmas music,” comments Smith. “This tour is really special for me. To be on stage with great singers like Point of Grace and The Katinas is overwhelming. Often, during the evening, I stop singing and just listen; I think I enjoy the evening more than anybody else in the building! What a joy to celebrate Christ’s birth with these good friends.”
Smith’s “Celebration Tour” offered fans an evening of hits from his unparalleled career spanning the last 20 years. The 19-date tour visited arenas nationwide and was seen by a cumulative audience exceeding 140,000. Having grossed more than 3.5 million and selling out 17 venues, this proved to be Smith’s most successful tour to date.
In addition to seeing stellar tour numbers, Smith’s 17th audio recording, The Second Decade 1993-2003, released on Oct. 7 to claim the No. 1 position on Nielsen SoundScan’s Christian and Christian/Mainstream Combined music sales charts. The album offers 13 hits from the past ten years and two new songs including the record-setting radio single, “Signs.”
With his most recent albums, Worship and Worship Again, selling more than two million copies collectively, and the Worship DVD receiving RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) platinum certification, Smith is undoubtedly one of the highest and most consistent selling artists in Christian music.
