| What a Week for MercyMe! 2003 just continues to get better for MercyMe, and last week was just as exciting, as they attended their first American Music Awards show last Sunday night (11/16) in Los Angeles, as nominees for Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist.
Previous to the awards, MercyMe walked the red carpet, and were interviewed by CNN, Access Hollywood, People, In Style, E! News Daily, ESPN’s Cold Pizza, the Wayne Brady Show, and many others, including the live pre-show on ABC with R.J. Williams from the Showtime Network show “The Red Carpet.”
Last Tuesday night at The Tower Club in their hometown of Dallas, the band celebrated the Gold certification of their 2002 fall release, SPOKEN FOR, a project that has consistently been a top seller, remaining in at least the top 20 for a full year, currently at #8 after 59 weeks on the Top Current Contemporary Christian Chart.
Their massive hit song “I Can Only Imagine” is continuing to impact AC (#6) and Hot AC (#26) charts, and even though they’ve already garnered a platinum record with Almost There, sales continue to grow each week (#2 on Top Current Contemporary Overall Christian SoundScan, and #77 on the Billboard Top 200, after 93 weeks, #1 on Billboard Top 100 Current Singles Chart). MercyMe recently set another record, as its single “Word of God Speak,” set the record for the longest run at #1 (10 weeks) on R&R Magazine’s Christian AC radio chart.
MercyMe just finished touring with Michael W. Smith on the “Celebration Tour,” and between tour dates is in the studio working on an April 2004 release. They will also be announcing spring 2004 touring plans soon. |
