| Wargaming I was wondering if anyone had any interest in wargames played on boards or with miniatures. I used to play a version of Mechwarrior (and will start again soon), but got back into wargaming with some new WWII games. I've been looking for recommendations on games and to see if anyone had done any playtesting or written up some house rules.

| Axis & Allies, Warhammer, Warhammer 20,000 -- all supposed to be fun. My friend plays Warhammer like it's going out of style! |

| Axis & Allies is good (I have that one) but "Attack!" is also supposed to be pretty good (from eagle games). I'm interested in a couple of good civil war games out there.
What is Warhammer about?

| Warhammer is Medieval fantasy warfare, Warhammer 20,000 is fantasy warfare (orcs, goblins, elves, etc) in the year 20,000 -- lots of high-tech mixed with magic and stuff... very cool! |

I know I have heard of the game and may look into it, but there are so many games out there....

| Another you might want to look into is Legend of the Five Rings. Samurais, baby.
I hear it's awesome.
And Warhammer 40,000 is usually referred to as Warhammer 40k.

I hear it's awesome. | Anything to do with the Bushido rocks. As a side note, Jason, you'll drool when you see my new toy. Full tang, 440 stainless steel katana with rosewood hafts. The matching Wakazashi and Tanto are next, when I get paid. Anyway, carry on with your discussion as if I weren't here.

| I used to be into Mech: Dark Ages. Fun stuff... except I had no one to play with, so I like got un-interested... I wanna still do it, but there's no point in buying them if I can't play with 'em.
I remember that my best Mech was a Spider, and my favorite Battle armor were Gnomes...
I wanna play one of these miniatures games... Seem like fun. |

But I have a Scottish Claymore, so I'm one molecule less jealous.
I'm going to get a Bugei blade when I get a job, though, maybe sooner.
One major problem I have with tabletops is the cost. I realize that many of the pieces are metal, sometimes pewter. But still, eight bucks for two guys and thirty or more for a hero is insane. Not to mention codexes, and the fact that an army requires dozens of figures.
The cheapest part of wargaming is the terrain and making your game table. How freaking sad is that?

If you were playing on a table with objects already on it, boom, there's your terrain. Of course, it's much more fun if you have your own custom terrain, but still.
I really need to get back into that. |
