| Casting Crowns Breaks into Top 10 at Christian Radio With outstanding presence at retail since its self-titled debut project released at No. 1 on Sept. 30, Casting Crowns is experiencing strong momentum at radio. Out 14 weeks, “If We Are The Body” climbed to No. 7 on the Billboard Hot Christian Adult Contemporary Chart and the Billboard Hot Christian Singles & Tracks Chart while creating waves on the Radio & Records radio charts as the second most-added song on both the Adult Contemporary and Christian Hits Radio charts this week. The single is currently No. 3 at AC and No. 5 at CHR.
Andrew Patton, vp of national promotions, Provident Label Group, commented, “This is the first time I can remember working a song 14 weeks after it hit the station desk, that remains in the top two most-added slots at radio. The consistent response I’ve seen from stations is that ‘If We Are The Body’ is the biggest song they have on the air today. It’s exciting to see a new artist finally break big this year at radio and retail.”
“It’s been wild to see this song gaining so much attention,” noted Mark Hall, lead singer of Casting Crowns. “I wrote this song years ago for my first youth group and honestly thought I was just writing it for that church at the time. Little did I know that I would use it at all my churches or that it would be a Top 10 song at Christian radio. We appreciate all that Christian Radio has done to help communicate an important message through its airwaves.”
Casting Crowns recently wrapped up its first national tour. The “Let My Words Be Few” tour, headlined by Rebecca St. James, hit 16 markets this fall and garnered many new Casting Crown fans along the way. The tour has created a frenzy of calls for booking agent Jeff Roberts and Associates.
Ron Cantrell, artist representative at Jeff Roberts, noted, “I’ve been with Jeff Roberts for 15 years and worked with many new artists during this time and have never experienced anything like the buzz Casting Crowns has created around the country, especially within the churches. ‘If We Are the Body’ has really struck a cord with the church. We have been, and are continuing to be flooded with phone calls and emails from people desiring to bring Casting Crowns in for a concert. We’re looking forward to the many great things God has planned for this wonderful band.”
Casting Crowns, formed during frontman Mark Hall’s tenure as a youth minister in Daytona Beach, Fla. four years ago, developed its unique sound while leading Wednesday night worship for its youth group. Accepting a similar post in Atlanta, Hall and other band members relocated in order to continue and grow their music ministry. In addition, stemming from his passion for youth, Hall launched a curriculum called “Jumpstart Resources” designed to assist smaller churches with their youth programs.
