#279 | | Banned | Once again, as I did with the TV shows, allow me to divide old movies with new ones. By old I am generally refering to movies that are either in black and white or are colored with that obviously fake looking color. I read the rules and am of course blatantly ignoring them, but seeing as all other "favorite movies" threads generally get closed in leiu of this one I do not find such a definitive rule to be fair in this case. Especially not when someone is a fan of even the earliest generations of movies (spanning nearly a century of movies isn't cool). So I hope these lists will be acceptable. I will bold the number of ten movies from both movies (expressing my top ten out of these two lists for those of you who are hardcore rule followers ) and will provide a link for any movies that I think might be less than well known. New: 1. The Shawshank Redemption 2. The Dead Poet's Society 3. Princess Bride 4. The White Squall (amazing movie)
5. Unbreakable
6. The Jerk 7. Sneakers
8. Patch Adams (No one else mentioned this? Guess it was too sad?) 9. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
10. Braveheart Old: 1. Stalag 17 (check it out, you'll like it) 2. Casablanca
3. Roman Holiday 4. The Good, the bad, and the ugly (if you haven't seen it, run)
5. Sergeant York
6. Twelve Angry Men (the entire movie was done start to finish without cutting once)
7. Ocean's Eleven (the original, so few people know about it) 8. The Naked Prey (excellent)
9. Arsenic and Old Lace
10. Harvey

I joined cgr not too long ago, and am compensating through archeology.
I once heard of a church that split over whether temperature should be measured in Celsius, which was apparently part of the commie's evil plan to take over the world, or Fahrenheit, which every "true" American should use.
If this is so, I strongly recommend we all become staunch Kelvinists. |

| Shawshank Redemption - Amazing
Braveheart - the perfect warrior epic
Seven Samurai - A really cool samurai flick
Star Wars V - This is what the second section of a trilogy should be
O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Infinitely clever
The Princess Bride - no explanation needed
The Matrix (first one only) - the first film was amazingly clever
Office Space - Rarely is a comedy truly a work of genius, this is, leave the whole cult classic thing behind, this movie really was genius
I really have not seen alot of classic movies (or any for that matter) or alot of modern movies people highly praise. So I will stick with what I listed.
