Yes. This is indeed the most amazing game. Ever (of the FPS genre, of course). Gamespot is NUTS for giving it just a 9.2. It deserved a 9.8 EASILY. I also don't know why Gamespot rated it as Medium difficulty. Maybe they played it on Medium or something. I'm playing it on hard, and it's fairly challenging. (And I'm not a nub the HL universe).

I'm extremely suprised at how much better it is than CS:S. The playcontrol is a heck of a lot more smooth, the physics take a major major part in the game, and are a lot better done, and generally.. I think Valve needs to use some more elements in the way HL2's single-player is done, and apply it to CS:S.

I've gotten the bugbait, and just climbed that tall mountain into the sewer-pipe, after killing all the tower-sentries.

Wow. This game is something else.

I started over today and played through another hour and fifteen minutes or so. I'm going to try to finish Half-Life: Source (which looks like crap, unfortunately ) before I move on to HL2, and I want to experience HL2 with my new graphics card that should be coming in the mail soon. I'm really surprised how well it's performing on my ol' 64MB Radeon 9000, though (average 65fps, 640x480, medium settings).

Heya,

My brother has an old 8500 card, works fabulous on the game. At 1024x768, I believe. It may be higher though.

I'm downloading Half-Life:Source as I type this. It looks fine to me, from the screenshots I've seen. Not really much different from the first one, but what do you expect - it's almost a direct port from the original.

Whoa, nice. I doubt I could go that high without dropping to ~20fps, though.

Yeah, that's my problem with it. I would have liked to see a complete revamp like they did with Counter-Strike, but I guess that would have taken too long. PC Gamer said that the mod community would likely update it with new models and hi-res textures and such, though, so I guess I have something to look forward to. Of course, by that time, I'll have finished the game already.

Has anyone been able to play this game that has also played Halo 2? I'd be very interested to see a comparison between the two.

Ben

Never mind. I've tried installing it over and over but there is some weird error. I've contacted Valve.

That's weird.

Do you already have Steam? I'm not sure if that's required to play or not.

It came on the disk. There are 5 discs. The first disc installs steam and then the others install half-life 2 into the steam directory. Everytime I get to disc four it says "there is an error reading counter-strike source shared content.gcf Make sure it exists and that you can access it" and I check and it exists so I click retry but the same thing keeps happening over and over.

There is a catch-22 here. The error is with installing counter-strike source which I don't want installed anyway. If I just checked the option not to install counter-strike: source then I wouldn't be having this error. However there is another error where you cannot install half-life 2 without installiong CS:source as well. So, looks like I am stuck for now. I have no idea what to do. I've tried everything changing the install directory to trying to rename the file mid-install. Nothing works. I wish Valve would just let me give them my CD-key to verify I've paid for this and then let me download it via Steam or something. This is gay. I want to play this damned game.

Apparently, the Penny Arcade guys think like I do. Except, I was throwing bottles at the Combine soldiers. It's more fun, because they chase you with electric rods, and then you get to try and run away.

I found the Sierra technical support messageboard. Some people got it to work, but lots cannot. I wish the real tech people would post the solution on there. This is one major weakness that PC games have. Sometimes you go through hell just to play them. With a console game it's typically as easy as turning on the system and putting the CD in the tray.

I think it's amazingly better than Halo 2. Don't get me wrong, Halo 2's single player campaign is awesome, but they messed up the multiplayer. Everyone in my dorm has already gone back to playing Halo 1.

Looks like there's little hope of me being able to play the game anytime soon. People on the tech support messageboard say that when they call the actual support line that the only advice they get is to return it for another game. This guy who took their advice had another issue when he got the other copy home. VU freaking sucks. I can't even return my game because I got it from amazon.com.

...dude.... That is the crappiest thing ever.

Well, there's hope for you yet. Apparently piraters already managed to crack Steam's authentication system yesterday. Check your PMs soon.
