What? 7 stringed guitars

I just recieved a 7 string Wasburn electric. I'm used to strictly 6 strings.
I want to know anything anyone can tell me about 7 string guitars.
Chords, what is the extra string for, tuning, etc.
PLease tell me anything you know.

The standard tuning should be BEADGBE, so the extra string would be tuned to a low B. Contrary to popular belief, 7 strings can be used for more than just nu metal. If your into nu metal, listen to stuff like Korn or Staind (although technically, Staind uses a baritone 6 string, but its basically the tuning of a seven string). Also, I dont really consider them nu metal since they were around since before the genre became popular, but the Deftones have some awesome 7 string stuff on their new self titled cd. But you can find some much better 7 string stuff out there. I've heard them used for jazz stuff to get the lower bass notes, so they are a lot more versatile than some people think.

I know that Rusty Cooley often uses a 7-string; his playing is a bit clinical sometimes, IMO, but he's still an incredible guitarist. By the way... I'm into Washburns, simply because it's what works for me, and I've never seen a 7-string Washburn. Could you tell me what model it is, please?

I believe that the B string is simply a string that you can use to get to lower bass notes. I know that Vai and Satriani sometime use seven-string guitars to create a really deep rhythm part on their songs.

Check out Satriani's Mind Storm and Seven String for examples of his uses of the 7-string.

I would love to have a 7-string. Would be great fun.
