| yeah. I woke up feeling really blah. I forced myself to go to the office, but once i was there, I felt icky and I needed to come home and get some sleep. so, my wonderful coworker m took my kids their SAT admissions tickets, and took them donuts and all sorts of good stuff. I need to figure out what I can get her as a way to say thanks.
I just finished a practice GRE test and...man. I am not happy with the results. I just requested some stuff from "gre bible" so we'll see if it's really free. verbal was okay. not my best, but I'm never really too worried about my verbal scores. it's freaking math that I worry about. I've never been too hot at it, and I haven't done math really since high school. I took the fluffiest math class possible in college, and skated through with a B. (I never went to lecture except when there was a test, but it was all word problems anyways.)
so. yeah. I am going to start getting up early and working on math in the morning. I have two weeks from today to improve my score. this is where procrastination has gotten me!
oh and G: thanks for the info via UC. I didn't know that. for some reason, I never pop the d'addarios! I wonder if I was buying the elixirs in too light of a gauge. I just know that I've popped the high e a few times and the g a few times too, either while tuning or stringing. (and..I am not one of those crazy people that tightens the string really rapidly, either!) |

I've never even broken a string from the lightest acoustic set Elixir offers. Hmm. I know I've heard some complaints about people breaking them though. I've always just wondered if that was in part that they are so expensive that more people are likely to report them breaking than with the cheaper strings. Who knows. Quote:

| I had the same exact problem when I played a bit of acoustic. Bought three sets one time, broke the e on two of 'em......
And my old worship leader would break them all the time too, playing. And neither of us had any problems with other brands....
So personally, I never use Elixirs.

| Also, I <3 math.
Also, I've never broken an Elixir. I've been using EXLs lately, though. Which I've never broken either. |

| I like Martin strings for acoustic. They have a really nice sound, and they seem to last quite well. |

| I've had martins on my guitar since...before my senior recital. =x I keep meaning to fix this!
and G...I'm pretty sure there isn't anything wrong with my guitar. I just don't do well with elixirs. I've never broken any strings other than elixirs in all the years I've played. |

I use ernie ball acoustic strings, but that may just be because I recently got a box free of them... ...well I say, free. I did work for them. I just did not expend money for them. |

| I must say, though, I rarely change my strings unless I have to (i.e. if I have some sort of performance/recording that requires nice new strings). I'll never change strings just to make myself happy. |

I am tired! wearing high heeled boots all day eventually takes its toll. but...they're so cute, so I guess it's worth it. =D
lessons went kind of long today, but it is not going to happen again--I have already decided! and now, I think, it is time to work on grad school stuff. |

| haha.
I super hope that the insurance bill does not go through. my parents are already under a heavy enough burden, trying to provide for a family of seven. as taxes stand, they're already supporting other peoples' kids. they couldn't afford to put me through college, nor could they afford to put my brothers through college, so where does the government come off trying to force them to provide for other peoples' health insurance as well? it pisses me off.
I am all about helping the unfortunate and the legitimately needy, but most of the people who are in the system are milking the system, and they're teaching their kids to do the same. and in case anyone tries to disagree with me...my roommates and I are all in public service and we live in income-restricted housing--we see this played out every single day. while I don't think we should completely do away with the welfare system, I think it needs massive overhauling. *edit* memorable conversation of the month:
me: I can't believe they don't sell vodka here! [the local supermarket.] in california, you can get whatever you want at safeway!
lacey: I guess we'll just have to find a liquor store.
me: our parents would be so proud of us, running around looking for liquor stores.
lacey: well we have to get liquor somewhere. |
