| NewSong Hits The Road With Fall More Life Tour Coming off its successful Summer Jam Tour, GRAMMY nominated group NewSong hit the road this fall on the More Life tour featuring specials guests Todd Agnew and Kelly Minter. The 16 date tour launched on Sept. 14 in Greenwood, S.C. and wraps up in Midland, Mich., Nov. 17. (Complete tour dates listed below.)
“We are thrilled to be back on the road bringing new music to our fans,” noted Michael O’Brien, NewSong member. “Some days we have no clue what city or state we are in and we miss our families, but touring is worth it when we are seeing God radically change people’s lives through our music.”
Chris Fox, Greenwood, S.C. promoter noted, “The More Life tour proved to be a great show for us in Greenwood. The quality of this tour will be the catalyst that brings more artists to our city in terms of outreach and musical ministry. Additionally, all three artists were very genuine and faithful to their call - you can see it in their presence on stage - their focus is completely on the Lord.”
Ardent Records worship artist Agnew adds, “We’re so excited about being a part of the More Life tour this fall. After being on the Summer Jam tour with NewSong, we are expecting another great touring experience. NewSong cares not only about the people in the crowd but about us as well and our spiritual well-being. God is using these men to reach our world and it's an honor to be a part of it.”
NewSong’s claimed the No. 10 position on Billboard’s Contemporary Christian SoundScan chart this week with their 15th album More Life, which released Sept. 9. The album more than tripled first-week scans of its previous studio album, Sheltering Tree, released in 2000. More Life was No. 2 on the Top Christian Albums charts and the band’s highest debut for first week sales in its career.
NewSong garnered nation-wide attention with the 2000 release of their poignant Christmas song, “The Christmas Shoes,” originally recorded on the group’s Sheltering Tree album. The song captured the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s AC chart in a record tying three weeks and continued to build momentum in 2001 when NewSong released a holiday album titled The Christmas Shoes.
A novella based on the song was written by Nashville author Donna VanLiere, and appeared on the New York Times bestsellers list two years in a row. That was followed by a nationally-televised made-for-TV movie, “The Christmas Shoes,” produced by CBS and starring actors Rob Lowe (“The West Wing”) and Kimberley Williams (Father of the Bride). The television special surpassed its other network competitors and brought in 17 million viewers. In early 2003, the album’s success was capped by a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album” and Dove Award for “Musical of the Year.”
