Heh, I get predjudice from guys I know who think I can't play very well, or I'll play "girly". Most of the time they won't even give me a chance to play, and believe me, I'm not bad at all. I also get predjudice playing keyboard in our praise band because the other keyboardist is a guy and I'm the only girl in the band so they kinda ignore my playing or are like "yeah its ok, for a girl".

Its not that guys think girl gutiarists are bad.
Its just that they wont always give you a chance to play.

I have yet to encounter any guys telling me to stop playing the guitar lol. I have not met one guy who has thought it bad or unladylike or an invasion of the man's world for me to be playing the guitar. of course, I play the acoustic guitar, not the electric, so that could have something to do with it.

I think with electric guitars, guys generally are better. like, my younger brother is amazing on the electric guitar. it blows me away. (if you read this, don't let your ego inflate so much you can't get out of your room. ) and it's more of a guy style of playing than a girl style, so I could understand if he was like, "uhhh.." if I tried to play that way (which I wouldn't cuz it's not me).

but yeah...as far as I've experienced, guys think it's awesome when girls play guitar.

Well from another girls point of view...ive been playing guitar for my youth group for about 3 years and i have never really felt like the guy guitarists thought i sucked or whatever, alot of the guys now who play started a year or two after i did so i do have some more experiance then them in leading worship. Also about girls and guys styles of playing guitar, one thing ive noticed is, well for example there are about 5 girl guitar players including myself who played guitar for my camp this summer, now im not saying its bad that girls play electric and stuff, cuz really i play electric(well bass) but thats besides the point but yeah the boys who play guitar at my youth group all went out and bought electric guitars, and the girls including my self mostly just play acoustic/rythem so yeah i duno im not saying theres anything wrong with girls playing electric but you just dont see many girl electric guitarists, so i dunno what point im trying to make i guess electric guitars tend to be a more masculin thing cuz they are more for rock and punk and stuff, and i dunno i just see alot more girls playing acoustic. So yeah thats just what i think...

You know, I have yet to meet a girl electric player, but I know plenty of girl acoustic players and classical players. . I guess it's kinda like how you don't find many guys playing flute. It's not that uncommon, but still uncommon.

um...

Would you say girls play from another perspective.
Perhaps we play more by feeling.
Guys play alot for sound or music theory.
Men are more...well can I say rational players.
Not to say I am irrational but just different somehow.
I tap into FEELINGS and EMOTIONS, which I am not saying guys dont do that but what I am saying is I just am willing to visit.
Im concerned with the way I sound which is why guys are great to work with
but I am more concerned with what I am saying verses what I am playing.
I am a firm believer in tuning. Just very picky about what I am projecting as a singer. Maybe guys arent as concerned with that kinds of stuff.
I am not sure?
What do you think the difference really is or is thier a difference?
By the way, Blues Guy your right about Bonnie Rait.
She is one of the best female guitarists.

I don't think guys are particularly more rational players. Can you really tell whether it's a girl or a guy playing guitar if you listen to any recording just according to the way it sounds? I don't think so. Most usually just assume it's a guy, since it is true that the majority of guitarists are guys.

I'm sure you can sometimes tell whether it's a girl or guy lyricist, but as far as guitar goes, there's not much difference sound-wise, but more guys will usually play the instrument, since it just happens to be a more guy-like thing in our society to play guitar.

About emotions and feelings, most good songwriters, in my opinion, must tap into their inner thoughts and emotions in able to write a good piece of music. If the emotions aren't considered, then the song usually will end up full of cliches and won't sound as, well, emotional. Music Is Emotion.

Bottom line - I feel Iam not predjudiced, in fact, I wish there were more girl guitarists.

agree..

Ok, maybe thier is no different in the chords.
What about strumming?
Maybe gender is not the difference maybe personalities.
I just always thought guys were more interested in sound.
For example how many girls run sound boards verses the guys that run sound boards. Females in general (not all females but most) have no interest in car parts. Guys take apart a car and put it back together quicker than I can fix my hair. Its just one of those things.
Guys are better at machanics.
Is that same thought process, intertwined with gutiar playing?
Men have this increadable ablity to put things together.
Truely, I have always thought this is why they are excellent guitar players.
Maybe I am wrong.

I dunno about hte whole soundboard thing, true at my church there are only guys who work it for services, but i like know how to use it, and i can set up a band into the system and stuff i actually think its kind of fun to do, some guys in the youth group that play guitar dont know how to set up stuff into in the system.

How about female mechanics? The point I'm trying to make is that two guitarists of the same gender can sound as different as night and day, and two of different gender can sound nearly identical.

Girls don't need guitars to attract guys. Guys therefore have to work harder at playing guitar. J/K...sort of.

You think>

Yes girls can play the same chords but do they write the same kind of songs?
NoWAY..
Ok... well its a little different in christian music since all we sing about is God.
Its not the same in the rock world. There is a difference in music.

Your saying guys play guitars to attract girls?
It works!!!
Im not saying there are no simularities.
I am just saying there is a difference.
Why dont you see this.
Chicks are usually backup singers holding tamborines. (I can say this Ive been a backup singer)
not lead gutarists.
Its just a fact.
