Which itself does no justice to the original metrical paraphrase or any tune I've seen attached to it. Rich's version isn't exactly something you can really run in church.

Nice to be back. I need to journal some just to keep up my writing chops, and to keep stuff from leaking out of my 36-year-old brain. So I thought I'd try this blog thing, and wander around several of my old haunts (forums) while I was at it.

Thanks for the explanation, too. Do you know of the glossary to which I referred? Does it still exist?

I saw Rich live about 8 times, including once from backstage (after Carolyn Arends got me passes after interviewing her for the now-defunct TLeM).
I went to a Q&A session he held and then a concert later that night. There was a tornado warning, so we had to go to the student center at the college where he was performing. We stood outside and he played for those who stayed, with Beaker and a drummer playing a bodhran. It was incredible. I got a stool for the drummer to sit on and so I got to be three feet from them the whole time. Absolutely the greatest concert of my life.

I agree that it's difficult for a church setting, but I think it's wonderful all the same. I would advocate a plainchant/evensong rendering, but then... I'm Anglican.

I'm Baptist. We can find a way to run it in church the way it is.

What am I saying? We don't even say the creeds in church, much less sing them...

Yeah, my thoughts on this would be that theology, as everything, should be an act of worship, but mainly, it should lead us to deeper worship, I mean, when I study the essential nature of God or the pre-incarnite Christ and think of all that God has done for me, it only makes me want to worship him more. My pastor used to refer to some hymns as "glorified (lit.!) theology lessons", and that's quite true.

*sings* "God in three persons, blessed trinity."
