Line Out

when you use a line out arent you just using the pre-amp. my question is could you plug your guitar in one amp and the the amp into the effects return of another without hurting anything

i believe that is correct.

you can run one amp, take the line out on that amp (or even the pre-amp out) and run it into the "power-amp in" (effects loop return) on another amp. there are some limitations...but i think it makes sense.

you have to make sure you're running ONLY the pre-amp into the second amp, otherwise you'll be double amplifying the signal...which is a very bad thing.

You can run a "line" out (which means a line-level signal) to either input of another amp (effects return or "input" preamp) and nothing bad will happen. You'll probably not want to "crank" the second amp if you choose to run the signal through two pre-amp stages. Many guitarists, when they want to get signal to two different amplifiers, will have a signal split somewhere between the guitar and the two amplifiers.

Note: Speaker outs are different. Only plug loudspeakers and loudspeaker cabinets into speaker outs!!!
