Bruce Almighty

(Spoilers, obviously)

So when Bruce is rewarded by God at the end by making a selfless prayer, does that fly in the face of the Prayer of Jabez? Should we take a movie seriously that goes against "Jabez"?

Absolutely, Wilkinson's "The Prayer of Jabez" is crap. A better question would be, "should we take anything by Jim Carry seriously, esp. when he partners with Hollywood to portray God"? Then I'd say no.

should you take any jim carrey movie seriously???

i saw the movie a few days a go and wasnt really impressed...i knew it was gonna be bad but not that bad...they totally misrepresented God, however what was I expecting from a secular movie? I have to say some parts were good, getting people thinking about God but I think they played down my BIG GOD way too much! Think man, if you entered God's glory you really think you could survive? and where was Jesus in the whole thing, sure they mention Yaweh, but that was about it...

the movie was funny, i laughed through the whole thing.

but like people have said, it paints a bad picture of God. especially when it comes to the free will issue. When God (morgan freeman) tells Bruce (Jim Carrey) to let him know if he figures out a way to make people love him.

I mean really, if God is all powerful and all-knowing do you really think he would have a hard time finding out how to predestine the love of people and make it still be genuine love.

The movie painted a horrible picture of God.

You might want to read Luke's article on Alwaysreforming.com about this movie.

I found the entire premise of the movie blasphemous...

It didn't attack any god that I know. I sat through the entire movie and didn't laugh once. It was painfully unfunny.

The only part of the movie that I really found humerous was when he scrambled the words of the news broadcaster....

Shamefully, I found it somewhat funny.

And not too blasphemous at all. Just a little crappy Theology.

Yeah, it was just like when I got God's power for a day in here in Dallas (my power was only within the limits of Dallas County, of course). At first I was all about doing neato tricks like parting bowls of soup and walking on exceedingly large puddles, but after a while I tried to use my powers to make this girl love me. I, with the power of God, realized how hard it is to be God. There was one thing more powerful than me... a woman's free will. I decided it would be better to be a man and win her heart with flowers and money and stuff. But I learned a lot from that experience.

God giving up his power and giving it to a man isn't blasphemous?

Luke wrote a review a while back on AR

I did not waste my time and see it, and the more I hear, the better that sounds.

Still, it's impressive for a movie to so unabashedly assume that there IS a God.

I like the fact that Bruce and Jennifer Aniston are Catholics. Or some sect that places high emphasis on rosaries.

You do not have to be God of a small area to go to the moon, just Adam

I didn't see the movie.. cause I believed it to be disrespectful. And if he was God, he could have made that girl love him. They protray a discustingly twisted form of arminianism. As if God CAN'T make us love Him if that's what He wanted.
