Doug's cousin died this weekend and we got the rude awakening call on Monday morning.
He went out on a wave runner type thing, drunk without a life jacket or "kill switch" showing off for some girls and fell off. They think the wave runner may've hit him, they said he came up once and yelled for help and never came up again. They looked for him in a boat but they couldn't find him at all. The divers pulled his body out about 24 hours later.
Jerry was always drunk, it was his own fault for being so stupid but it's too late to be mad at him now. It's hard on Doug, I didn't know he was close to Jerry because I'd only known Jerry as drunk. Aparently that was within the past few years time, Doug said before he drank all the time he used to look up to Jerry a lot. Everyone's all upset, and I understand. Doug's sister from Texas is coming in tonight, and the services aren't supposed to be till next Monday or Tuesday.
Doug had to skip class Monday and Tuesday so I had to help him with his homework. We can count on spending quite a bit of gasoline driving down there (an hour, one-way) several times. We've already been there Monday and we're going to go meet Raynell tonight, and of course we'll be there whenever the service is.

Clear Lake is a bauxite "blue hole". I'd always heard about them, but never seen one. Hoped it'd be under better circumstances when I finally got to see one. It's a nice lake with really clear water, but I don't see any way that I'll ever get to swim there now. Oh well.
