Speaker size question answered

I keep seeing people asking about speaker size so i decided i say what the diferences are
Some people think that the biger the speaker the louder it gets. thats not completly true though. A 2x12 cab is just as loud as a 4x12. the diference is that the 4x12 will throw the sound farther. it will also have more bass. sdo basically the bigger the speaker the farther it throws and the more bass it gets. which is the reason some people who play heavy styles of music will have a 4x12 an a 2x15 for a stack

thats my explanation
if you have anything to add feel free to do so

What about actual speaker size? Whats the diff between a 200watt 10" Speaker and a 200watt 12" Speaker?

Is there a difference in sound quality between different speaker sizes/numbers? How about between speakers with different wattages?

The only diference is going to be the 12 inch speakers will have more force and they will also tend to have wore bass. the tens will have a more punchy treble sound to them

no not not really. the quility of the sound comes from the speakers themselves not their size or wattage

So my 25W amp with 10in speakers could theoretically sound just as nice as a 100W amp with 12in speakers? Wow. I always thought the bigger the amp, the better the quality (in general, at least...)

I think what he's trying to say is that there are a lot more characterisitics to the design of a speaker than its size or power handling. There's a guy with the last name of Bose sitting on the beach somewhere because he took those "other" characterisitics very seriously in the home-audio department. Strangely enough, if you take apart one of his stereos you'll find this long snakey-looking tube acting as a "speaker...".....

Basically, you can't pretend to know much sound-wise about a speaker if you're only given its size and power-handling characteristics...

Just to reiterate what's been mentioned (and use a solid example), wattage (speaker and amp) and speaker size have little to do with sound. Some professional guitarists used very small, low wattage amps in the studio, but the bigger amps live, simply for power issues. I've heard of guitarists using amps with a 10" speaker (15Wamp, unsure of speaker wattage capabilities) in the studio vs. their live 4x12 cabs that handle like 400W.
