| Christian Funk Rock? Does anyone know of a Christian Funk Rock band? ie: RHCP in the Christian segment? Over the past few months, I have really came across some great bands while reading this forum and site (switchfoot, skillet, sonicflood, pillar, five iron frenzy, etc...). But I have not found a funk bass player in a Christian environment yet. As this is my main style of music I play on the bass, some inspiration of an already established band would help a lot.
all thanks in advance,

| There's a lot of good Christian funk out there, but it's not called "Christian funk" -- it's called gospel.
Check out Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker, etc. The CCM scene is not very funky. For some real funk and soul, you should check out Christian music of a different complexion. |

| Thanks for the input. I'll see if I can find some of those samples on the net, and get the CD if I like. What would be some good all-around funk bands on the Christian scene? (Ie: earth wind fire, parliament, graham funk, etc... in the Christian vein)...
Thanks again.

| If you want to hear them, I'd recommend going to amazon.com and listening to some samples of their music.
Looking for tabs or stuff, I guess you'd have to request them.

| To get a good sampling of the current Christian funk scene, you might want to pick up one of the WOW Gospel 2-CD sets. Generally, the first CD is a selection of contemporary gospel-funk artists, while the second CD is a selection of gospel music in a more traditional vein.
I wouldn't expect to find any Christian funk tab on-line. But if you want to learn funk guitar and bass, there are some good instruction books and videos available. Go to a site like sheetmusicplus and do a seach for "funk" and "guitar" and you'll find some good material. I have a couple of good funk guitar videos by Allan Slutsky (Dr. Licks) and Al McKay (Earth Wind and Fire). There's also one available by Jeff Tamelier of Tower of Power. |

| You'll definitely have to check out Waterdeep: Live at the New Earth. Not all Christian funk music is called "gospel". The show on that CD is amazing and there's some great bass grooves on it. You'll love it!

and this thread will be closed, you are not supposed to post in old threads like this.
But you're new, you didn't know.

All Together Separate does some funk.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight. | |

All Together Separate does some funk. | But a thread from four years ago is a major no-no, even if what you have to say could change the world, a la the theory of gravity.
