Third Day Claims Two No.1 Positions on Debut Week of Billboard.com Christian Music Ra

This week, Billboard Magazine unveiled two Christian music radio charts and Third Day’s hit single, “You Are So Good To Me” claimed the No. 1 positions on both the Billboard.com “Hot Christian Adult Contemporary” and “Hot Christian Singles and Tracks” chart.

“The announcement of the new Billboard charts is exciting,” commented Third Day member Tai Anderson. “It’s a privilege to be the first artist to top both Billboard radio charts. Our thanks to radio for its enduring support.”

Wade Jessen, Director of Country, Christian, Gospel and Bluegrass Charts Billboard/Airplay Monitor , explains the impact of the new charts. “The introduction of these new charts will significantly elevate the profile of Christian music across the broad spectrum of users who look to Billboard for chart data and industry trends. These charts will also enable us to honor Christian music's top producers, publishers, songwriters, imprints and labels in our annual Year In Music issue, and periodic recaps in these categories will be an invaluable enhancement to Billboard's editorial coverage of the religious music industry. I'm thrilled that the musical ministry of Third Day is rewarded with our very first No. 1 singles on these new lists.”

Gabriel Aviles, Director CMTA (Christian Music Trade Association) added, “Being one of the major forces for our industry, Third Day’s reign at the top of both new Billboard charts is not surprising. I expect them to collect many more Billboard number No. 1 singles as they continue to be airwave favorites.”

Both of the new charts are tabulated and ranked by a national sample of Christian airplay provided by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) Radio Track service. Songs are ranked by the number of audience impressions, computed by cross-referencing exact times of airplay with Arbitron listener data. For now, the charts will be refreshed each Thursday on billboard.com, but will soon move to a Wednesday update schedule. They are also available Monday afternoons via the Billboard Information Network (BIN).

Third Day has hit many landmarks this year. In addition to their success at radio, Essential Records saw great success with the launch of the band’s March 4 Offerings II: All I Have To Give which sold 53,360 units its first week at retail, placing it at the top of Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart and at an impressive #18 on the overall Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. The first week sales more than doubled the initial sales of the first Offerings project. Offerings II was also the highest debut in the Billboard Top 200 for Third Day. Come Together previously debuted at #31on the chart.

Over its 11-year career, the five-piece rock band has garnered 19 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, 19 No. 1 radio singles and is nearing the four million mark in career sales. The band’s success on tour is unparalleled with an audience of more than 750,000 in 2002 and ranking twice on touring magazine Pollstar’s “Top 100 Tours of 2002” list, ranking above acts including the Counting Crows and Alanis Morissette.

Nashville-based Essential Records was founded in 1992 to provide relevant music from a God-centered perspective. Essential Records are part of the Provident Label Group, distributed through Provident Music Distribution and BMG Distribution.
