| Are There Little Miracles? Are There Little Miracles?
By: Bryan Faltynski
Here’s a list of some oxymorons:
Good grief, same difference, almost exactly, Government organization, legally drunk, British fashion, small crowd, business ethics, pretty ugly, twelve-ounce pound cake, working vacation, exact estimate, Microsoft Works, and of course, small miracle.
The word miracle brings many images to mind. The images in my mind, range from a preacher smacking deaf people on the head, screaming, “You’re healed!!” as they hold their heads in pain, to fire falling from the sky.
We associate miracles with unbelievable recoveries, people coming back to life, or super extraordinary events that can only be the work of God. I am going to tell you about a miracle that happened to me.
My wife was pregnant with our first child. Our beautiful daughter was about to be born. We went through the anxiety that all couples go through. We waited for the due date to come. Then it came, and went. We anxiously watched every day tick off the calendar. Every morning, I would wake up and think, “Today, I’m going to be a father!” Of course, I was always wrong.
Then, the day came. Early in the morning my wife woke me. She nudged me, and told me that she had been up half the night with contractions. Of course, I flipped! I jumped out of bed, and started running around, barking orders at no one! After my wife calmed me down, we both got ready to go to the hospital.
As we stepped outside, an overwhelming feeling rushed over me. I will never forget the scene before my eyes. The sky was the color of bright copper. I have never seen a sky like it before, or since. It was as if someone had draped velvet over the entire sky. I could actually feel how soft the sky was.
The next thing I will remember, for all of eternity. There was not a drop of rain in the sky. There was not even a hint of any moisture coming. It was dry as a bone outside, but there was the brightest rainbow majestically ruling the copper sky.
As I gazed upon the magical rainbow, a peace fell upon me that I can only call a hug form God. The Lord wrapped His arms around me, and let me know that everything was going to be taken care of. I instantly knew that God was in control, and I was simply along for the ride.
The ride would turn out to be an absolute life changing one. My daughter was born that afternoon. I don’t think I stopped crying for more than five minutes the entire evening. I never thought that so much love could come in such a small package. Our little girl was the picture of health. She was so very beautiful. I must have thanked the Lord a million times that day. In fact, it was one of those days that begun with a thank you, and ended the same.
Now, did you catch the miracle?
Although the birth or our daughter was a miracle, that is not the one I am thinking of. I am not thinking of the rainbow, the sky, or the hug from God I received that day. No, the miracle I am referring to is something that can be missed very easily. It was a simple sentence that read, “Then, the day came.” You see, out of all the miracles that happened that day, there was none as important as the fact that the Lord allowed me to see that day.
Psalm 50:1 says, “The Mighty One, God, the Lord speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.” And Psalm 74:15-17 says, “[15] It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever flowing rivers. [16] The day is yours, and yours is the night; you established the sun and the moon. [17] It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.”
I am amazed each time I think that the One who made everything around me, loves me enough to allow me to experience his majesty every day. It would do us good to remember that the Lord does not need us here to accomplish His plan. He allows us to see each and every day. These are the greatest miracles, the ones that go unnoticed.
We must ask the Lord for help. He will help us learn to stop, look around, notice his everyday miracles. He will start to show us the beauty of the wind blowing through the trees, the sun’s warmth as it hits our face, the velvet draped sky, the magic of rainbows, and the power of a newborn’s cry.
We need to wake up each morning, and thank God that He allowed us to wake up to one more day. We must realize, everyday, that God has given us one more opportunity to share the great salvation He has given us, through His son, Jesus Christ.
He gives us one more chance, each day.
What will you do with yours?
