| YEAH!
It reminds me of the reworked hymns that Caedmon's Calll/Derek Webb/Sandra McCracken have done. Especially with the little "Hallelujah" part at the end of each verse. That's really cool.
I really like the melody, and the accompaniment. I'm hearing a full-blown folk/rock arrangement something like Laden With Guilt or Thy Mercy... is that the type of sound you'll be after when you do a full recording?
It's great, dude. Rock on.
In His love,
Nate

| Ah, thank you, Nate.
Yeah, Sandra McCracken's melodies kinda echo in my mind, and lately I have feebly attempted to get that feel to my melodies. Similarly with Caedmon's. I was worried the "Hallejujah" bit was kind of a crutch (I have done this in other hymns I have reworked, as well), but I like it, I think. The verses in this song sort of merit a mini "Hallelujah" chorus, they are so powerful.
Maybe after this weekend I'll tighten things up a bit with a slightly fuller version. I might work in a mandolin. "Laden With Guilt" is such a great rework, that is a lofty goal and I don't have a lot of resourses at my disposal musically. I wish I had some percussion, because I could definitely do with some djembe, or maybe a simple snare drum.
Anyway, thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. |

| Hey Pocta
I really like it, I'm not one for hymns usually, but these days I'm finding a peace and a truth in them. And this, is a masterpiece. For some reason, you remind me of Ben Harper. The melody is gorgeous and just. Wow. Excellent my friend.

"Rock of Ages" is definitely one of my favorites, and I've been trying to redo the music forever, and finally I came up with something I liked. Thanks for the ever so kind words, Sarah, I'm glad you like what I came up with. Perhaps I will start using this version at my church. |

| cool. I could imagine doing this around a campfire.
Nice harmonies.
You could do a better job annunciating, but that might
be slurring due to the MP3.
Excellent! |

Excellent! | Yeah, the enunciation and pitch issues are due in part to the fact that I have been sick. I am waiting to get better so I can redo the vocals.
Thanks for the comments. |

| I thought it was great! This is actually my first time hearing this song, so I can't compare it to the hymn.
One question though, what are the chords?

| Yow, Benj!
How do you spell Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young ??
This belongs on the Deja Vu album, fer sure, mate!!
Harmonies are classic, and what better than to go with
a classic re-working.
Cudo's to you ( i suspect you are doing all the parts? )
If you are going to do another recording, let me know,
so i can get it on hard-drive with Dave (Cool-E)'s stuff.
I am thoroughly impressed ( and intimidated.)

One question though, what are the chords? | Thank you so much. The original hymn has different music. You should check it out sometime as well on Cyberhymnal or something.
I play it capo 3. The chords are as follows (relative to capo, of course):
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
G G/F# Em7 Cadd9
G Cadd9 G Cadd9
G G/F# Em7 Cadd9
Cadd9 G D/F#
Cadd9 G D/F#
Em7 Cadd9 G
Em7 Cadd9 G Quote: |

-gary | Wow, thanks a lot, man. I am a big fan of CSN&Y, especially Deja Vu, so that is a big compliment to me.
All the parts are me, even the last part that wheezed its way in there. The first two vocals I put down were okay, the last one my voice had taken enough. When I'm finally over this sickness (it is really hanging on this time) and my voice is 100% again, I'll redo this and post it here.
Glad you guys liked it. |
