LOL no one has a copy of longhorn... the newest leaked release is like a year and a half old and is barely functional...

at this point from what i hear they're almost done with the WINFS file system and the interface. i know the final product will have a fully Direct3D driven interface. which is going to rock the house... I'm learning DirectX 9 game programming now so i'll probably be able to write my own interface for it when it comes out... that'll be fun... if you havent read about the winfs file system, it's going to be sweet. it's worth a look. rumor has it that it's going to basically be a giant relational database that microsoft figured out how to make fast.... thats the strongest theory/leak though.... time will tell.

I've played with a copy when I went to Microsoft for work about 3 weeks ago. It is pretty nice. But they are kind of at a stand still with the File System until Yukon gets wrapped up, since it depends heavily on that. When it is all done it will be a sweet OS.

Longhorn is Microsoft's code name for the next version of windows. They always use a code name before the product is release, beucase most of the time they don't know what to call it yet. Yukon for example is the next version of SQL Server, and Longhorn is the next version of Windows.

whistler was xp...

SO will it run decently in vmware? I want to see if I can do a bit of pre release testing as I have found that invaluable in servicing comps later as the bugs seem to remain somewhat constant. I will by it as soon as it comes out, but I want to know how it works before I spring for it...

It looks really cool. It had some performance issues, but those where being addressed. I wish I could give more detail, but you have to sign a Non-Disclosure inorder to see it. Sorry guys

That's not really true, I have a copy of 3683 (I never installed it). 3683 was the first leaked alpha, IIRC. http://www.windowspro.net/ has screenshots of the latest builds. The builds are generally older than they're leaked date, but they're not ancient or something.

Look around on the various beta sites for more info.
