Whats the difference between running a power amp in stereo or mono through a cab?

With just a preamp and power amp running stereo isn't a big deal (and it's not really a big deal anyway,*)...most players that have racks run some effects that sound good in stereo (like chorus, delays, and reverb). .

Have you gotten the manual for the Peavey 50/50? I don't remember off the top of my head if you can bridge (use both sides of the amp as one amp) it to use as a mono amp...I know you were thinking of getting a 2x12", so the first cab you might want to get woud be a stereo 2x12" and latter you could get a second 2x12" to use (for small things use the stereo 2x12" and for big things, use the two 2x12"s in stereo).

*I'm a stereo junkie, so you don't know what it took to say that...

No, I havent gotten the manual yet. I've bid on the JMP-1 on ebay right now, but I'm not expecting to actually get it. I get paid on thursday, so I'll probably start seriously bidding then. But I do know that the 50/50 can be run at 50 watts a side in stereo or 100 watts mono..... Yeah, I was thinking about doing that with my cabs. Thanks. But, well, I've only ever played in mono, so whats the difference between that and stereo? I mean, I know the difference when listening to like a cd or mp3, but whats the difference when playing guitar? What exactly does it do?

The stereo factor usually only matters with effects. With a stereo delay line, you can have different delay times from each side, with stereo modulation effects, there can be a sense of left/right movement, and stereo can give more realistic sounding reverb.

If all you're after is a straight ahead rock tone, then I wouldn't worry about running alot of stereo effects (or probably even running in stereo at all)...it tends to thin out the sound of the gutiar and make it less powerful.

Peavey has all their manuals online, and I think Marshall might, if you want to go ahead and be reading up on stuff.
