Here I am. Haha sorry man...I've been meaning to get on here and I've been meaning to call you too. It's been way too long.

The college where I live had its library book sale today! I got a ton of good books (20+) for $12, it was awesome. I got a history of submarines and submarine warfare, a bunch of books by Faulkner, Huxley, Hemingway, Toomer, Pound and many others that I haven't read before but have been meaning to.

Library sales rock. I love submarines. Have you ever read "Thunder Below!" Its about this submarine in WW2. The crew reinvented submarine naval warfare.

I was kidding. I'm going to buy that shirt, though. It's from Urban Outfitters.

Damn. I feel like an idiot. ****, the world is so small now I thought by chance you popped on the school website or something and bought it online, lol. I feel dumb though.

Hey Nate you recommended The Wire to me a long long time ago and I never considered watching it...until now. Its absolutely amazing. I'm on the third season right now. When I finally get a journal started I'm going to write about it. Didn't you love the second season? I actually enjoyed it better than the first. I've never had to pay such close attention to a show before- and it is well-worth it.

Yeah! I can't stand the vast majority of t.v. shows, but the Wire is ridiculous.

Indeed. Jimmy McNulty and Stringer Bell are my favorite characters so far, what about yours?

Oh I just remembered- also Brother Mazoune!! I love his character. "What the most dangerous thing on this planet? A n**** with a library card!"

Omar is my fav. character...one of the best television characters I think I've seen.

Today is Record Store Day! I've gone through my collection and there was a cull. I pulled out a bunch of stuff I don't really listen to any more to hopefully trade in. There's this record store near by, the only independent one around, and they take trade-ins and actually give a decent price for them. So hopefully I can turn all of that into a couple new albums and get a bunch of free Record Store Day stuff.

I've had quite the head and chest cold lately, which is LAME. I'm sick of being sick, haha. Oh well, I haven't been sick in a while and it could be much worse.

Spring is finally here, as in temperatures are finally warm enough to do stuff outside like take a walk, ride a bike, etc! I'm so pumped that I get sick just in time to enjoy the warm weather, haha.

Record store day was cool. I found a used copy of Daft Punk's Alive 2007 CD. I've been looking for it for a while, but the special editions disappeared. I also got Erlend Oye's DJ Kicks and Flying Lotus' Los Angeles, a pack of cigarettes, a popsicle, and two movies - Cool Hand Luke and Don't be a Menace in South Central While Drinking your Juice in the 'Hood. I got everything for like $8 cause I traded in a bunch of rubbish CD's I've had for a while.

I've been really nostalgic lately, for my life a few years ago, say ages 19-21. I'm 23 right now, so I know that sounds ridiculous. Things seemed so much better then, though, with my friends. I think it's that Alive CD that's doing it to me, haha.

I can't shake this head/chest cold I have, which is annoying, but at least it's not severe enough to prevent me from doing stuff outside. I'm planning on going to a couple of shows and if I can put the money together, a few more, haha. How has everyone been? Any good concerts/festivals/events on anyone's horizon?

Found some nice ones there dude. I still haven't gone to downtown Austin to shop the record stores. I bet there are some gems there. Its about time I reboot my collection.

Damn colds. Hope your feeling better. You know I won't be able to go to shows for a while because...well you know lol.

LISTEN TO THIS ENDLESSLY.

I heard it in Rushmore again tonight and remembered by deep and abiding love of the Kinks

Kind of a crazy story...

My girlfriend introduced me to this dude, Ricky Richard, although everyone calls him Fresh, who moved here after getting out of the Crips, serving a 7 year jail sentence and getting shot in the leg (among other things). His life hasn't been very good at all. My girlfriend introduced us because she thought I could help him out with some music stuff, as he is trying to emcee.

I put a couple of beats together for him, and he was really, really good. He said he liked what I was doing too. We ended up having a couple beers, talking, making more music, etc. It culminated in about a jam session, with me on the drum machines and synths and him freestyling. It was so much fun! I'm going to help him put together a mixtape while we work on an album, just for fun. Who knows? I think he's incredibly talented, and he really liked what I was doing. It was tough because I tried to match what I was doing to his style, etc. but I really liked the overall results.

Keep your eyes peeled for Fresh Waters. I asked him about the name and he said "water is just the thirst in me that people don't understand." Really nice guy. Really fun to be around.

In other news, after lying dormant for an incredible amount of time, I've dug out some Pinback albums and are really enjoying them. I always seem to get into them in the Summer time, or at least when it warms up a bit.

Loop some Muddy Waters and have Fresh Waters rap over it.

Oh man, I love the summer, and one of the many reasons I do is because it is the season of festivals, namely music festivals!

So far, I'm going to Rothbury. I'm also either going to Pitchfork or this other one closer to home. It's tough because, while I really dig the lineup at Pitchfork, The Orb is playing at this other one, along with Flying Lotus and a number of other bands I'd like to see. Decisions, decisions...it's the best kind of dilemma.

I've been kind of tired or a lot of the stuff I've been listening to lately, and ironically, I had to go back a generation (or two) to find some of the most exciting music I've heard lately. I've been on a huge Miles Davis kick. Especially Porgy and Bess, Round About Midnight and *****es Brew. I've always been a big fan of jazz, particularly from the 30s - 60s, and this is just incredible. I really like his work with Gil Evans, who did arrangements.

Porgy and Bess in particular has really grabbed my attention.

I've also been listening to Dizzy Gillespie a lot, check out the song "Manteca" and don't look up the translation of the song title if you're sheltered, haha. It's from 1937! That's ridiculous!
