I'm guessing by your name that you play the tuba?

How many other bass/tuba doublers do we have here?

I'm one!

I started on the tuba in 5th grade cause I would get free bass lessons in 6th grade. I got tired of having to lug around that huge embarassing brass hunk of junk and went to pure bass guitar! Now I spend my time lugging around huge bass amps that weigh three times as much as a tuba every would (but I can't say that I don't mind showing off either, lol)

But man, bass is where it's at! No disrespect to the 'tars but on the bass shaping and creating sound is so much easier. Plus, on the bass to change my sound I can: two-hand tap, use chords, thumb/slap, and/or go the traditional two finger method; all with out having to pick up/drop a pick or stomp on three different effects pedals to pacify the tremelo and delay and activate the overdrive. One of the guitarists in my worship team has at least twelve different effects pedals that he uses at every service (even acoustic sets! lol). Bass has an amazing and often unrealized ability to solo and lead, every time I listen to Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey on their Bass Extremes projects I cannot believe what just two basses and a drummer can create!
Check it out!

Peace

down time,
bottom end,
basement,

by the way, if you've never played slap with a good jazz piano player, you haven't lived! some killer stuff can come out of that combo! And whoever said Bass can't be played on its own, is mistaken...bass can be hammered, plucked, caressed, and persuaded into providing a very pleasant worship experience!
ALL BY ITS LONESOME!
