HI! I saw my friend gracey there...and hey,we're from Philippines! I hope we can help you with tagalog as much as we can.

To start off.. here are just some basic words or phrases that you can use: (you can read this a lot like how you pronounce a spanish word...or read it just how it was spelled..) These words are straight from manila, the capital city of Philippines!

1. You- Ikaw (ee- kaw); ka, kita (second person)
Your/s- iyo (pertains to ownership/possession)

2. I/ ME- Ako;
My, Mine- akin (pertains to ownership/possession)

3. What is your name? - Anong pangalan mo (a-nong pa-nga-lan mo)
4. Thank you!- Salamat!
5. Take Care- Ingat! or You Take Care- Mag-ingat ka!
6. Goodbye- Paalam!
7. Where are you going?- Saan ka pupunta?
8. How old are you? - Ilang taon ka na? (the word "Year" is also translated as "taon")
9. Happy Birthday!- Maligayang Bati!
10. I love you- Mahal kita!

Oh well, thats it for now. If you want to learn more, just ask me some more words/ phrases and I'll gladly translate it to you in tagalog.

Your Friend- ang iyong kaibigan (ang ee-yong ka-ee-bee-gan),
Sonrisa

I've been confused about something for quite a while. I mean no disrespect, I'm just curious...

Why is the nation 'Philippines', but the people are 'Filipino'? Why is one 'PH' and one 'F'? That's like saying French people are from Phrance. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, right?

hahaha, i think someone told me it was because they mix up their p's and f's. So, this leads to some funny conversations.

Other than the p's and f's kinda correct reason to explain it.. fardon me..hehe. It got to do with history...am not really sure about it but something about the spanish being the first to conquer the Philippines and it has something to do with the King Philip guy, then so the spanish has no 'ph' on their words, so "f" becomes it. I think that's it.

Unless somebody objects???

this is what i know...

the word "Filipino" is of spanish origin. it's taken from the name given to the archipelago by the spanish conquestador. the country was named "Filipinas" in honor of "Felipe" or "Phillip" and so the people are called "Filipino" or "of Phillip". so what happen was if we were not colonized by the americans we would not have been called "Philippines" we should have been simply called "Filipinas" and the people "Filipino". so i should say it's the fault of the americans coz they "americanized" the name the country but didn't do so with the name of the people. but for us "Filipinos" we are still called "Filipino/Pilipino" and the country is still called "Filipinas/Pilipinas". it doesn't matter if it's "F" or "P" since every region has its own unique accent some might say it like an "F". some like a "P". and some in between the two. "Philippines" was the name given by the americans to the philippines but they continue to call the people "Filipino". so we better ask the americans since they are the source of all this "weirdness" and confusion.

yah there is. coz during the spanish era the Philippines was called Filipinas because they followed it from King Phillip's name that's why the people are called Filipinos but then everything changed when the americans conquered our country because the spelling was changed to "Ph" instead of "F" I hope u were enlightened with that.
