Looking for good Scripture songs

Greetings all, I am not sure exactly where to post this. I have recently been convicted of some of my music tastes and am trying to fill my head with things that are God's truth (Phil 4:8). However, I am unabel to find any good songs I LIKE. I avoided Christian music for years because most of it was shallow, however I would love to find some scripture set to music.

The issue is... IS there scripture set to Modern Alternative/Hard Rock music? For example, I love Nirvana, Linkin Park, System of a Down, I like Korn's rifts, though not their lyrics.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what i should listen to? I would greatly apprecaite any help.

Also, for less hard Rock, I do like U2, Cranberries, Ben Folds and lighter stuff like that, so any good scripture to music like that would be also appreciated.

It'll be very hard to find a band with consistently deep or scriptural lyrics. One of the best is Caedmon's Call but they're more a folk/rock sound than a modern rock sound.

You noticed?

Anyway, I'm really noticing a shortage of scripturally-set songs in general lately, in all CCM, not just in hard rock/alternative...

But then of course.. good doesn't mean Scripture. Though a lot of praise and worship songs are directly taken from Scripture

David Crowder (& UBC Band?).

Not hardcore, but not Caedmon's Call either. He takes positively MOST of his music from scripture, and when it isn't, then it's absolutely always scriputurally correct (he has theologically inclined person check over his lyrics, in case). He plays alot on the accoustic guitar, BUT, it's mostly easy to learn, and once you have it down, the riffs are totally transferable so you can bust it out on the electric, and VIOLA! Hardcore. Kinda.

I know exactly what your looking for, but its hard to find. Petra is a good band, check out their new album Jekyll and Hyde. The single is currently #1 at ChristianRock.Net. Very good scriptually. On a local scene I know people that do what your looking for, but its not on cds...yet.

ScriptureMusicMp3.com

Hi -

You could try ScriptureMusicMp3.com for free Mp3's of music from a couple dozen independent artists that's based entirely on scripture.

The artists represent a wide range of musical styles, so if you don't like one, try another - they're all pretty unique.

Scripture songs

If you are still looking for Scripture songs, I hope you find this. I was doing a search on the Internet and found your message from 2003.
It was about that time that God began giving me gobs of Scripture songs. I am up to 31 recorded songs. They are not rock songs, but they are in a variety of styles -- mostly melodic and country because of the what the Lord convicted me of...
In any event, they are available for free download as mp3s at my website at http://www.songsfromtheword.com
The chords and lyrics are also available so you can play them for yourself and declare God's promises in his word over your own life.
One of my CDs is called Victory!, which is especially appropriate for that sort of thing.
There is a collection of Scripture music from many artists at a website at http://www.scripturemusic.com, which also has a radio station of all Scriputre songs. You may want to check it out.
May God bless you!!!

Thumbs up Scripture songs - with an acoustic feel

Hi - I just found the forum and been reading some good posts. I am in UK and play both electric and acoustic guitar. I got involved with a group who use quite a lot of christian music and I started to play guitar with them, that was pretty good for ahwile, but then we decided to try some scripture music, not so much worship, but real scripture. We found a few good sites but if you know any good ones send me a link - cheers. One of the group had some Taize Music, chants, which is very scriptural, we also have some music from Bernadette Farrel and Val Goldsack (both very scriptural) - so if anyone knows any other scripture songwriters ..... give us a link eh !!!
peace 2 all

More Uplifting Scripture Inspired music.

For a signed band that really rocks out, and is completely uncompromising in their lyrics, I would recommend Seven Places. There is a lot of simple truth, solid doctrine, exhortation, and well paraphrased direct scripture reference. Also I write music, all scripture inspired, and similar in style. I have a free download at havenyates.bandcamp.com of a song that directly references Phil 1:21, surrounded with lyrics about what it means to me, and applies to us. It looks like there have been a lot of great replies here already; some of these links posted are great! I just heard some wonderful direct scripture songs in a lighter rock style, so definately check those out too.

Never heard them? Think of Simon and Garfunkel meets the Ramones, all based in solid theology.

Try Head's album Save Me From Myself. It sounds more like Korn than Korn does now.
