heya, bon

Seeing as you've been the most frequent poster in my blog, I reckon I owe you a post or two.

Hey, your visit to the Philippines is getting closer. Hope you find all the little bits I've posted about it helpful.

TIP No.1: Don't talk about where you can get your money changed to local currency anywhere in public. Forget etiquette; it can get you mugged

TIP No.2: Do savor the local delicacies. Eat first, ask questions (i.e. "What is this?") later.

Thanks Bass! I'm getting so excited about the Philippines. I met a Filipino family last week; the husband preached at my course about revolutionaries. So good! He suggested we catch up so he can tell me stuff about the country. So, with you and him teaching me, I'm off to a good start. Did I tell you I'm going to be in Manila a bit, and then the rest of the time in Baguio. Maybe we'll come and share at your church... !

I remember when I was in Cambodia, we went to a wedding banquet. It was sooooo good! All that food. The generosity was amazing. I ate some interesting stuff. Didn't question. Later, I found out that one dish I especially liked was dog. Hmm. Yum!

So....

Today, I worked... 5-2. At 3, I caught up with my pastor for the first time in far too long. He was really encouraging, honest, insightful, supportive - as I knew he would be. At 4, I got my hair cut and coloured. Gone is my boring, dull blonde hair that was so shaggy, it was getting mullet-ish. It's red and white. Sounds like a flag, but it's really not. It's fun and ... coloured. It's amazing what a new hair-do can do for your outlook. I came home at visited Kez. We shared our weekend stories and she gave me some chesty-rub gunky stuff to help fix this nagging cough I have. She's gonna be a great mum! Now, I'm here.

My friend got with a carniboy (one of those rough looking, bored guys who run the show rides at shows and don't seem like they like being there!). Kissed him and everything. What the heck is she doing? (Flirt to convert approach?!) Sometimes, I wonder about that girl! The thing is, he's gonna go and it'd be a fair dinkum miracle if they stay together or he comes back.

God wants to give us the best and I figure if he's got one man out there who's gonna be my husband, I don't wanna muck around, waste time, do stuff... investing into someone on that level when I'm not gonna be with him for the rest of my life! I don't wanna settle. I want the best. It breaks my heart when someone so close to me settles... or mucks around with stuff that isn't remotely steady or promising.

Alls I know is that I have to be her friend. Don't condemn. Be honest. Support.

I've also got a friend who's gay. We've hung out the last couple of Sundays. He's looking for a church. In the car, we do a lot of talking. He doesn't really have the foundational theology of Christianity, so the things I share with him are pretty basic, but he's real encouraged by them. He's confused and "has no peace" and I'm like... "HELLO!?"

I came to the realisation the other night that no matter how much Scripture I pull out to explain that homosexuality is wrong, I can't do the Holy Spirit's work. He's the One, the only One, who can do the revealing. Until the revelation comes, I just have to speak in faith, from the Word and pray for the revelation. (Faith comes by hearing the word of God - Romans... 5:17?)

So, if you could, right now, take a moment. Pray for these 2 friends of mine. Pray for the Holy Spirit to grip them like never before about their behaviour. Pray for the people around them; Christians and not, those who give input. Pray for me - that my words will be His words. Pray for whatever needs to be done in order to bring them around, bring most glory to God. Cheers, Bon & God.

Thanks heaps Nards!

Today was pretty good. I worked 9-6. I'm stuffed. I have an annoying cough/head cold kinda thing. I'd love a day off work, but to get one off, I'd have to go to the doctors to get a certificate, saying that I'm sick. I've never been to the doctor in the whole time I've been living here (20 months)! As if I'm going to go, when I know what he's gonna say! The amount of money it costs to go the doc doesn't justify getting days off!

I just listened to this song, by a band called "Baterz". They write crazy songs about nothing in particular. This one goes like so:

I met this girl
She turned away
So I went around the other side of her
I met this girl
She turned away
So I went around the other side of her again.

Hahah! I love it.

Man, that song sounds like something I'd listen to if I just wanted to blob.
Have you heard of Calabrat? (I think that's how it's spelt)

They're great with songs like that, might be an Australian band, i heard of them from an Australian friend. The song I remember the most from them is all about being an apple hanging on a tree, funny but has spiritual conotations(?sp) to it.

Wednesday...

On Wednesday, after work, my plans to go to coffee with a friend died when she messaged to tell me that she was too sick. (It was all I could do not to message back with something like, "Well, that's what you get for kissing slimy strangers from the show."!) I came home from work and Sean was leaving my house to go to Tabor. Realising that there was some people I needed to see at Tabor, I went with him. I got to catch up with Coby and while she was in lecture I got to catch up with Carly. After she left, I got to catch up with Nigel. In a few spare moments I had, I wrote a nice email to a nice guy, wrote a note to Phil and left it in his office, plus answered the phone while I was there!

That night, when Haydn and Ali picked me up to go to the prayer meeting, I decided I would give them a Third Day cd. When I got tickets, I got free "Come Together" cd's. I already had one. I didn't know if they even liked Third Day, but I figured they could do with it what they wanted. Turns out that Ali had gotten the cd for Christmas one year but her sister had stolen it, saying that it was actually hers. Well, that was a bonus. She loved the cd and needed a new one. There you go...!

Today, I got up at 5am, as I usually do on Saturday mornings, and went to D2. Once again, a lot of fun and grandeous teaching. I went into the city after we had coffee on the Parade (a nice coffee shop strip kinda thing just out of the city) and met up with a few friends I'm leading on a camp with in the week after next. We went shopping for the fun things we'll be doing on camp. Very exhausting but fun. Carly asked me if I knew how to sew and I told her that if she gave me a washing machine I could sew wonders. Silly me forgot that they're actually called [I]sewing[I] machines. Needless to say, she didn't give me the material to sew.

We're having a polka dot and pin stripe theme night which I am doing the decorations for. Lots of fun! I got some nice stripey material for some pants! WOO! I saw Matt while I was shopping in the city as well. I hope he found a present for his sister.

Today, I went to this place where they make you salad rolls and you tell em what you want in there. Kinda like Subway only real. I had chicken, avocado (yum!), cranberry sauce, pineapple and gherkins. It was SOOOOOOOO good! I'm the best sandwich ingredient chooser and then Asian guy who served me put it all in nicely and unmessily.

I'm SOOOOO sick of coughing and snotting and sneezing everywhere. My throat is raw from the whole thing. Pah. I'm going to lay on my bed and look at my Australian flag, maybe write a letter or two and read my bible. It's such a good book. Peace out.

Greety ... Hmm. That's a new word. I was supposed to write 'greetings', but it just came out greety. I think it's pretty cool, personally.

So, what's been happening? Good question. I need to remember.

One thing I know is that I've been having the strangest dreams. I mean, they're pretty normal as in they could happen, but they're just not happening in my life. They've felt so real that when I wake up I'm all ... whatever the emotion. In one I was waken in the night with a phone call from one of my good friends asking me to pray for her so that abortion would be okay! What the? In another one, I was going out with this guy and we were at my parents farm. He was loving me and being with my family and it was just all mushy and nice. I was feeling all... mushy and nice when I woke up. But my friend isn't looking to get an abortion (she's not even pregnant) and I'm not going out with anyone (and no one seems interested). Very strange.

Last night, Kiah came around after work, at about 5:30. I was in bed... reading. I seem to have had a bit of time on my hands lately. I'm not busy and I've been struggling to find stuff to do. I'm doing a bit of reading: finished on of the 5 books I've got on the go. Kiah and I went to the pub for tea and we ate soooooo much. It was this smorgasboard stuff and it was soo good (especially the carrots!). We are both getting over the flu so we were coughing everywhere and laughing like we were drinking not lemon, lime and bitters that's for sure. I have trouble keeping my food in my mouth and then I thought I was gaving trouble keeping my food down!

When we came back, Kez was in the stinky room watching movies for uni. She had a drink with us and then we skedoodled off to bed even though it was only like, 10. It was so weird. All last week, all Kiah and I did was sleep and ... not eat. We made up for the not eating thing last night. So much for all that weight we could have lost...

I've been really quite excited about the approach of summer down here. This week it went up to 30 degrees within a day. Of course, the next day it was raining, but you've gotta admire the attempt. I was walking back from work when the flies started buzzing around my head (no, I wasn't that stinky). I also noticed the short skirts and skimpy tops the girls are cracking out. That night, I had a mozzie bite on my arm. In all my stoked-ness about summer coming, I forgot about the cruddy fashion, flies and mozzies.

Flies and mozzies I have some tolerance for, but fashion really makes me sooooo mad. It's hard to find a plain top these days without some suggestive slogan slashed across the front, or one that doesn't have a v-neck higher than your belly button! I am thankful though that the summer fashion is bright colours. I've got it half covered... hoho. I've got the bright colours, but it's all large chunks of material sewen together. There aint no way I'm stooping to complete immodesty!

Right, that's my musings for the evening. Please feel free to post your comments for or against my own. What's your favourite thing about summer? Where do you cut the line for immodesty as far as clothing goes? If you had a smorgaboard meal, would you overdose on carrots?

Peace out.

Time for some photos....

1. The baptism of lille Tahlia, by Steve and Greg, in the name of God. Tahlia was a little girl in our church with some kind of disease or syndrome. I don't know what it was, but she was 9 and very tiny with no hair and massive hearing aids. She was going to be baptised months ago, but developed bronchitis and couldn't shake it. (When she got sick, she really got sick cos her immune system was weak.) Anyways, she was finally able to be baptised 2 Sunday's ago. She held onto Greg as he bobbed under the water. There were STACKS of people there: church family, her family and her unsaved family also. Tahlia died last Monday - she's rocking out with Jesus!

2. These are my friends Jared and Yian. They stole my camera at camp and ... took this photo of themselves. Jared is a really tall guy, built like a tank. Yian is one of those guys who appear to have more teeth than the average person.

3. This is Jobby, a kid from church who's a real crack up.

4. This is Bon, a gal from church who likes to eat fairy bread.

5. This is an arty kinda photo that I took of a firee; my camera on B with the shutter open while I waved it around a bit. I love photography... the traditional kind!

Nice pics. I like em all, but #5 is my favorite, I think. Either that, or #3. And that Bon girl is freaky.

And about the fashion: no wonder no one wants to date you.

You are so mean. Doesn't matter that noone wants to date me cos I don't want to be dated... especially out dated. Oh but wait - my clothing betrays me!

Well, I'm really just posting tonight to let you all know some news. The first bit is that Tahlia, she had a brain tumour.

Next, I worked from 10am-9:20pm today and now I'm stuffed. So much for my quiet night in to watch Blues Brothers. I'm going for a quiet night of sleeping in my bed.

At about 10pm, I walked into the kitchen, dreading the fact that all I might eat for dinner tonight would be toast or something equally as exciting. There, on the table, were left over hot chips! Chips are my weakness. It seems I have a seperate stomach for chips... and then another for icecream. I think I might go and get some icecream... hmmm. YUM! If I ever met the guy who invented hot chips... I'd kiss him prolly.

And now for THE MOST EXCITING NEWS EVER... But shhh! It's a secret and you can't tell anyone. I got out of work with a few messages on my phone. One was from my brother, Reubs, asking me to call cos something was "pretty funny". His tone was totally not convincing. So, I called him back as I was walking back home in the dark. "How'd you like to be an aunty?" they say to me. HIS WIFE IS PREGNANT!... I'm gonna be "Aunty Bon", God willing, by late April 2005. I was screaming and jumping around the streets (everyone WAS asleep). Ewan and Gil are gonna be "Uncle's Jim and Bert"... and mum and dad are gonna me... GRAMPS!!!!!!!!! Struth!

Oh man. I'm about to keel over and die with excitement. My goodness.

Yep. Goodnight.

OH JOY!!!!!!!
