| I think there are different kinds of election, and that's because the word 'election' just means 'choice.' God chooses different people for different things. So, I believe that God has chosen many without number for eternal salvation -- we generally call these "the elect." I believe also that God chose different people for different historical purposes -- for instance, God chose Judas to betray Jesus, and Saul to be king of Israel. Finally, I believe that God chose different corporate entities -- for instance, the nation of Israel and the Church. So, it's all different kinds of choices, so different kinds of "election."
I believe that election was the same OT and NT, as Paul tells us that election occurred "before the foundations of the Earth" (Ephesians 1:4), and Paul argues for election on the basis of the OT (Romans 9), solving the probably of the chosen nation of Israel's individual losses by distinguishes between the corporate election of the nation Israel and the individual election of individuals unto eternal salvation. |
