| Shakespeare is cool, Shakespeare is great... but I haven't read or seen anything of his (save for the reduced shakespeare company and your taming of the shrew) in a long time.

| WE'll have to change that:kwink: There are some movies that did a great job with re-creating Shakespeare- "A mid-summers night dream" With Rupert Evret, Calvin Klein, Micheal Phieper...all them..it's great!!! Then ending 'play' Is so histarical!!! "Much ado about nothing" was good, and Mel Gibson's Hamlet was great! (but of course:kroll:
THE REDUCED SHAKESPEARE COMPANY was great
:kgrin:

| I like the plays that are redone to fit different time settings. I just went a few days ago to see Two Gentlemen of Verona in the punk 80's and 70's. They did a huge choregraphy to Thriller by Michael Jackson. And they made references to Mr. Roboto |

| that shakespeare...he was a pretty cool guy. last year i read romeo and juliet; it was pretty good, but man that sucks that they both die. this year we read the taming of the shrew, and oh my sweetness, it RAWKS!!! if i could play any shakespeare role, it would be kate (probably b/c i'm a lot like her in real life.. ). i did a monologue in my drama class a few years ago from one of his lesser known plays...so lesser known that i dont remember the name of it. but it was fun. lots of people are intimidated by good old will, mostly b/c of the old english. but with the right book and some handy cliffsnotes, anyone can understand, and enjoy, the bard.

| and about remakes...i've heard some HILARIOUS rewrites of shakespeare, just spoofing his works. as far as musicals, west side story does a good romeo and juliet, although a little corny. but all good musicals are corny.
and of course, the modern retelling of taming of the shrew...ten things i hate about you. funny, very quotable, and heath ledger - what more does a movie need?

| I love Shakespeare, none of my friends understand it though, lol. they all come to me for help.
I really liked Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet if we're talking about so-called remakes. That was just magnificent.

| Ah, this is some kind of crazy message from God...I've got a paper due for my Shakespeare class on Wednesday, and I've spent little to no time writing it.
I thought I would just butt into the discussion about Shakespeare movies--I'm in love with both the Kenneth Branagh Hamlet and Henry V. He's just such a darn good actor/director/whatever else he does.
I'm Christina, by the way. New to the boards.

| Welcome to the boards, Christina!! Good to have ya.
I love Shakespeare, but I gotta say I hated Romeo and Juliet. It was his worst play, imo. My favorites are The Taming of The Shrew (of course), and Much Ado About Nothing...Hamlet was good too, but it's been a long time since I've read it. I used to have his entire soliloquy memorized, I wonder if I could still recite it... I'm reading Henry V right now, it's cool. |

| KATI!!!!:kgrin:
Yup Romeo and Juliet sucks, that's why I believe Shakespeare was a company, not one peson, he wrote so many good plays but missed out on that one, somebody else wrote it:kroll:
Yesh Shrew and Much ado are the bestest. The Merchant of Venice is great too! Henry the V was pretty good. Cool, awesome to see fellow fans! "To you good friends I bid adou, at least untill tomarrow..."

| I liked Romeo and Juliet a lot - it's a very well written play with complex characters, yadda yadda. That new movie remake i loved absolutely.
Of all his plays I thought Hamlet & Othello were the cheesiest.
His sonnets! And songs! Let us not forget.
But my favourite favourites would have to be As You Like It, Twelfth Night, & All's Well that Ends Well.
Antony & Cleopatra, and Much Ado come close.
In highschool I played Ophelia in Hamlet, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (heh), Cleopatra in Antony & Cleopatra, and various other smaller (much smaller) parts in various other plays.
hearts & cheers!
