can there be any backing track or anything? drums? bass? other guitar?
i would assume so, but i havent got the the BJ's thread on it yet. a lead guitar by itself doesnt sound too great. there has to be a backing track to work against for lead to sound any good.

sounds like fun
i just have some questions
1. will someone (like a mod)not participate and judge the entries or how will we determine a winner (or will we even have a winner)?
2. is there a minimum length (do we really want 10 sec submissions being compared to a 2 min solo)?
3. can it be an acoustic lead part? (hey its what i play)
4. can we get some help so the computer illiterate can post there stuff? (ie is there some one i can ask questions of so once i have a recording i can get it posted)
:kcool:

something that hasn't been cleared up (I don't think...) is how many entries you're allowed to have...

Only one.

For those of you asking about acoustics, that's fine as long as you play some kind of solo.

That's the idea, to write something original, although I think I remember seeing that you can cover a song.

If I record something that I like better, can I replace my old solo with the new one?

Covers are fine.

If you want to replace your solo, make sure it's done by the deadline, and be sure to delete the old one.

I just edited the rules, this only applies to guests of CGR. The competition is open to registered members only. I felt it wasn't fair that someone who only lurks around here should come in and possibly win. So if this is you and you want to participate then you need to register.

I'm all for this, but as I mentioned before there are issues we need to think about.

The other site I participated in before had this thing about making sure it was really you playing. Believe it or not some people might submit something they cut off a CD or somewhere, then compete with somebody who really played their piece at home. Their method of proving you played it was to make you submit a tab with the sound file - if you can't tab it, you didn't play it.

Also, I am far from a copyright expert, but the other site also had issues with copyrights. When you submit something here it is available to anybody. (there was one guy on that site that swears Yngwie must have gotten an idea for one of his songs from a file he posted on that site, & now he's mad because Yngwie is making $ off his music, and everybody else says he copied the song from Yngwie) Anybody out there looking for a songwriting deal, music distribution deal, etc. needs to be careful about posting non-copyrighted material. Plus, if you submit somebody else's song you need to give them credit.

I know this is a Christian site, so these problems should be less than with the other secular site, but better to be prepared to deal with things before they cause trouble.

Well, you have some valid points, but I don't think many of us on here are at the level where we need to be concerned about people stealing our stuff.

Also, if anyone sounds like they submitted something off of a cd, the mods will check into it.

BTW - I play tons of stuff that I couldn't tab out. On my really good days, I often play stuff that I couldn't reproduce later to save my life.
