Denver testimony...

I went to Denver on a mission trip last week. It was awesome, and God was definitely working. We spent some time helping clean up after the big storm, as well as doing a VBS of sorts with kids that live in housing projects near the church we worked with. Here is just a part of the testimony of the work Christ was doing in me.
**********

From the moment that I knew God was calling me to go to Denver for Spring Break on the mission trip, I also knew that His desire was to teach me what it means to die to myself and to put the interests of others above my own. The subject of my own selfishness was repeatedly put before me, always with the option to either feed my flesh, or to feed my Spirit and identify myself with the death of Jesus Christ.

God was so faithful to speak to me through His Word, both to convict and encourage me. I was reading in John 13, where it says, “Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.” (verses 3&4) I realized that there was only one way I would be able to truly lay aside the layers which cover me, and to make myself vulnerable and expose myself girded with nothing but humility. It required complete and total identity in Jesus Christ, confident that I have been inscribed on God’s hand, and that I will meet Him one day, unveiled, face to face.

God also showed me, along the same vein, something I had never seen in scripture before. I went to Denver thinking that I needed to put others before my self, and look out only for their interests. Philippians 2:1-4 says, “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” These were my theme verses before, during, and after the trip. God showed me a revolutionary piece of His character in scripture in verse 4- God doesn’t want me to only look out for the interests of others. He says to look out for my own interests and also others’ interests. I never saw that before. I thought about what it means to look out for my own interests, because it seemed so contrary to what God desires as far as dying to my flesh. He gently reminded me that His number one desire for me is that I will be in love with Jesus Christ with all of my heart, mind and strength. This means that I need to look out for myself, in that I intentionally position myself to hear from God, no matter how “crazy” it looks to the rest of the world or even other Christians. This is what He means by looking out for my interests, and in doing so, I will choose to glorify Christ over feeding my greedy flesh. What freedom there is in loving Jesus Christ more than any other person or thing! I have much to learn, but I am learning to embrace the process and to cling to Christ.

HAHA, that's right! Represent Republic with pride (if you dare!) That makes two of us! Soon all of Republic will be CGRed out.

Tami, your blog has grown quite popular quite quickly (almost as fast as mine ). I mean look, you have GMartin, Dunny (The Danish) and SmileAndFollow in here already.

Oh, and GMartin is from Davenport. Wierd, huh?

well, it's only natural that i will be popular. *KIDDING* I am feeling the love though. By the way, monsieur meatfinger, why is it that you are on here to write but not on IM? I find that to be quite intriguing.

Tami, I'm not on IM because I was just checking your blog and then going to bed. And you can call me by my real name, if so desired And I am betty (see TheDanish's blog for details )

Guth: Me and Tami are good buds as she says, I brought her here

Oh, and to quote someone else's post, click the "quote" button at the bottom of their post. Right next to the "edit" button. It will take you to the screen were you type your message, but it will have something like this there:

[ quote][ i]Originally posted by meatfinger[ /i]
blah blah blah blah[ /quote]

And you type below it. Or you can manually insert the quote by typing what I just did, minus the spaces in the HTML code.

Anyways, it's goodbye for now, Tam-tam Later

As for you, danish, a nickname is just gonna have to come naturally. and smileandfollow, we're going to just have to get acquainted now, aren't we? ok. that's it for now.
