Keyboard/Piano

Hey guys, I play bass and guitar. I am interested in learning how to play the piano to expand my knowledge of music. I figure that if I learn how to play the piano, I might be able to play along with it better on the bass. Get a better ear for music. Do you guys agree, I mean I can learn quick, but do you think it would help my ability with other instruments?

Thanks :ksmile:

I will also deal with this in a new thread.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I had homework that I had to get to after I split these the other day.

Anyways... I think learning piano will help just about any musician. It will help you understand music in a different way (as will learning ANY other instrument), it will help you play better with pianists ('cause you'll understand what they're doing), it will help you with your chords (especially understanding how to form them). One last thing that is important.... if you take piano lessons from a respectable teacher, they will teach you lots of basic music theory during your first few months of lessons. This is invaluable knowledge. Take it seriously and apply it.

Hope this helps!

In His love,
Nate

id say it most certainly helps to learn piano. i learned piano first at like age 7 or something, and ive been playing ever since. so that's like...7 or 8 years for me. i just started guitar last year ( a year ago) and i picked it up SOOOO fast, its insane the difference between me and peeps who have played for 3 years who dont know how to read music etc. i'd suggest learning at least BASIC piano and music reading.

I'm the same as Jetrunner. I learned to play the piano at age 7, and learned to play guitar at 14. You really learn the tecnique faster.

Wink piano

I've just joined this message board tonight but i wanted to reply to your post. I started the paino when i was 5 and i've been learning it for about 9 years now. It really does help you with other instruments. You develop an ear towards music and your timing and co-ordination improves heaps!
You should definitely try it out!
