| In Melbourne you can enjoy four seasons all in the one day. And when I say 'can', I mean 'probably will'. It's generally a good idea to pack a few warm things even if you go in summer, 'cause the weather can be capricious - sometimes a cold change can come up seemingly out of nowhere and a hot morning can turn into a cold or rainy afternoon.
I'd say spring or very early summer is nice - September to the first half of December. Or autumn - March to May. I don't think I've been in winter.
The first time I ever went was in January about eleven or twelve years ago, and it was really stinking hot, though my Melbournian friends assure me it typically doesn't get as unbearable as that particular year was. On my third-last visit it was hot the morning we were packing up to leave, and then hailed as we left in the afternoon.
If you have family actually living in Melbourne why don't you ask them?
Thanks,
