What songs do you guys find work well for Communion?

I'm wanting to try the Kim Hill song "When I Remember" from the 'He Chose The Nails' album - but I don't have the chords - anyone have them?

And has anyone used that song?

Running To Win,

Dave

A couple weeks ago I learned Rich Mullins "Peace" (Agnus Dei) and played and sang while communion was happening (on piano, though, ever mindful that this is a guitar forum...). The songs lyrics are extremely powerful, and the chorus hits directly on communion...

So may peace rain down from heaven
Like little pieces of the sky
Little keepers of the promise
Falling on these souls this drought has dried
In His blood and in His Body
In this bread and in this wine
Peace to you
The peace of Christ to you

Do you know the song, You Are My King (Billy James Foote)? That's a good one. Another one I can think of is also from Passion (well Chris Tomlin), called "The Wonderful Cross", which actually is just the hymn "When I Survey the Wondross Cross" with an added chorus. Really power reflection of the cross and what our Savior did for us.

Where can I find that song, "The Wonderful Cross"? I know it's gonna be on Chris' new album - but that doesn't come out until 3/13!
I've heard a little of it on the One Day Live video, and yes, it's awesome.

Thanks,

Dave

My favorite communion hyms (the first three are great guitar pieces):

Table of Plenty (Dan Schutte)
"Come to the feast of heaven and earth
Come to the table of plenty.
God will provide for all that we need
Here at the table of plenty."

One Bread, One Body (Foley)
"One Bread, One Body, One Lord of All
One Cup of Blessing which we bless.
And we, though many, throughout the earth
We are One Body in this One Lord."

Blest Are They (David Haas)
"Rejoice and be glad.
Blessed are you. Holy are you.
Rejoice and be glad.
Yours is the kingdom of God."

You Are Mine (David Haas)
"Do not be afriad, I am with you.
I have called you each by name.
Come and follow me, I will give you rest
I love you and you are mine."

Communion Song (John Michael Talbot)
"Take this bread. Take this bread.
It is my body that is broken for you.
Take this cup. Take this cup.
It is my blood that is shed for you.
If we proclaim the death of Jesus
We shall rise with Him to live forever."

I Am the Bread of Life
"The bread that I will give
Is my flesh for the life of the world.
And he who eats of this bread
He shall live forever. He shall live forever."

One song I like is "The Blood Flowed"

The blood flowed and covered me
And washed me
Whiter than snow
It cleansed me, so I might be
Holy, as God is
Holy, Holy, Holy.

Communion Song

I love the song "My Soul Finds Rest" by Mary MacLean. It is absolutely beautiful. Very simple,
but powerful lyrics. Paired with an acoustic guitar and a strong celtic-like drum beat and the song takes
root in even the hardest heart.

My soul finds rest in God alone
He only is my salvation
My rock, my peace, my fortress strong
I will ever love and adore Him

Great love of God, Jesus his name
He only is my foundation
And on the cross He beld and He died
And He took my sorrows forever

And I will praise Him, come whatever....

Psalm 148.

Might be a bit difficult if your church isn't accustomed to a cappella choral singing.

We use a wide variety of songs--specific communion type ones, but also ones that build on the theme of the sermon, as the Lord's Supper follows the sermon and it always ties in, based on the meaning of the Lord's Supper.

"For the Cross" by Bethel is a good one. So is "Come as You Are" by Crowder. I haven't had to use that many recently because we don't generally have a song during communion at my church.
