| The historical points, didn't bother me too much, it's a Hollywood tradition to kill history. Quote: |
Scott lives in Scotland. That isn't the same as England obviously, but they are on the same island.
| Not really bothered about that either, it's not too far from the truth, albeit in in the wrong circumstances (as far as I know, that kind of treatment wasn't handed out to fellow white people).
On to what I didn't like.
The plot : entirely predictable. Every turn you could have guessed beforehand.
The acting : rather over dramatic on the English side, methinks.
The battle scenes : I'm never a great fan of seeing lots of people die on screen, especially not in ways that ring hollow as this. Generally, not a traditional war film fan, not got the stomach for it.
Also, the "hurrah, isn't America grand" thing this film, and others of it's ilk had going is a tad irritating. |

Or why not at least be realistic about it? Lying to the American public and trying to make Americans look like Heros while making the English look like crazy murders is a bad thing.
Of course, I own a copy of The Patriot. |

| Like the brutal English....
I can think of one instance where an English colonel (I think...not sure on the rank) did have a scad of men bayonetted to death, but the English were never so brutal as to murder an entire villiage by burning them in a church. |

| See, the Scots wouldn't have turned at eyelash at doing that .
Patriotism doesn't bother me. It's the whole backslapping thing, self congratulatory thing that's slightly irritating. Not just in the US, pretty much everywhere.
When it's handled well, patriotism can look good though, when the side you are cheering for isn't portrayed as perfect. |

| I love The Patriot. It is one of my favorite movies, predictable and inaccurate or not.
I also had anscestors who fought in the Revolutionary War (or so I'm told).

'The scene with the burning of the church is an excellent example of British brutality' *cringe*. Sorry, but it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I just can't get over their portrayal of the Brits... | The movie didn't portray all Brits as brutes only that one guy who killed Mel Gibson's son. The one main chief guy for the Brits was totally against his brutality and so were the guys under that first creeps charge. But that kinda brutality was on both sides I'm sure. Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked who can know it." There are some really evil and twisted people in this world. I'm sure there were some then also on both sides even if they didn't show it. Read about any time period and you'll come across them. History is full of them! Think about how the Romans are seen for there Brutality back in Jesus' day. I'm sure they don't like being remembered for having the most brutal executions (the cross). I'm sure the Germans don't like being remember for the terrible things they did to Jews during the World Wars. But each country has there bad time, there brutal times. You can't forget it didn't happen. Cuz it did. We may not like it but, hay what can you do. Hopefully we will learn from it and turn back to God.

Not just in the US, pretty much everywhere.... | Well, that's Hollywood for you. They want to the good guys to look almost Saintly. They don't want human errors and evilness to be shown. They are brainwashed to think that all people are naturally good inside bla bla bla when the fact is that we aren't. Our "righteous" act are like filthy rags to God because he sees the heart we do it with. We always have our own hidden purposed when we do something good. Apart from God we can't do anything good. Hollywood doesn't believe that so it makes sense that their movies won't show that.

| I don't believe it has anything to do with that, it doesn't make sense, even for an atheist, to think any human is perfect.
It has more to do with showing an audience what they want to see, rather than challenging them by making a good film. Or even a logical film. |

| Yeah, most people do, actually. My most famous ancestor in the war was a guy named Moses Harris. He was a double spy (eventually ending up on the British side, whoohoo!). I've done a ton of research on this guy, and he's awesome. He was such a smart guy. He was an officer, and was largely influenced by his wife who was the one who told him to spy in the first place. She made most of his political decisions, much like Benedict Arnold's wife (Another awesome guy [if you really think about it, he was a genius]). So yeah. I have people in my family who fought in the war. Go me.
