| According to this article, season 8 is the final season of the show. It also quotes the producers as saying that this season will be more about Clark fulfilling his destiny and transitioning into the Superman role and less about him figuring out his Kryptonian roots. And this article makes it clear that the no flying policy will be revoked for this season. It also talks about the new direction the new producers want to take the show. The big idea is that they want to close the gap between the Smallville universe and the comic book universe.
Everything I've heard about Season 8 has sounded real good save one thing, their terrible Doomsday idea. What were they thinking adding Doomsday to the show as a paramedic? I feel stupid even typing such a silly idea. |

| Here's a 30 second preview of the season premiere. Looks like it will be better than all of the season 7 episodes, but that really isn't saying much.

| Five episodes in and I've been pretty impressed with season 8. There's been less groan worthy moments this season, and the new characters as of yet haven't been annoying. Also removing the "Clark and Lex" and "Clark and Lana" storylines has cleared up the show to focus on far more entertaining stories and relationships. |

| I agree that removing the "Clark and Lana" storyline was a good move, but I am slightly disappointed that Lex isn't part of the show anymore. He was one of my favorite character on the show.

So for the last two seasons every episodes had a mandatory season where Clark storms into Lex's office screaming about morality. |

| All the goodness that they built up with the first half of the season, they've started to undo it by bringing back Lana. Somehow they've managed to turn the Man of Steel into a wimp. He spends all of his time pining over Lana. WHY WON'T THEY LET THAT STORY DIE!!!!!!! |

| We can take solace in the fact that tonight's episode should be the last in the season with lana in it. Hopefully, the last for the show, it feels like the lana/clark relationship is a crutch that the writers use when they want to fill in some episodes. e.g. wanting to draw out the doomsday, clark becoming superman or lois/clark storylines so they conclude later in the series, what should we do? bring lana back!
You have to agree, that this season at it's worst (the last couple of episodes) is still better then the last few seasons.

| This show has fallen into all the same traps of the "classic" Superboy comic book: try to cram as many major events of Superman's adult life into his teenage years. He's involved with the Daily Planet already? There's going to be the Justice League Watchtower?
And here's where I was aghast: Mia Dearden, the HIV-positive sidekick of Green Arrow's late career, is going to be on Smallville? Not that I'm against the character. She's one of my favorites. But to cram her in?
Superman's basically fought all of his major enemies, and he's not even Superman. Huh?
I tried, off and on, to get into this show - streamed a few episodes, got a DVD, watched it with friends.
But it's too slap-dash. It's bizarre.

I didn't think it was poorly done, but it seems way too complicated for Smallville. Like most of Smallville, I thought it had a bunch of good things, and a handful of bad ideas. |

But it's too slap-dash. It's bizarre. | I really don't understand why they didn't just let become Superman 2 or 3 seasons ago. This past seasons they had the "EPIC" battle with Doomsday which lasted all of about 30 seconds. I should have known better, but that was a pretty big disappointment.
Of course the third episode of this season was a Zombie episode. |

| I was a huge fan of Smallville the first three seasons, but felt that it got bad very quick. For one thing they overused the Lana and Clark thing, since it was obvious that was only a highschool thing and not the "love of his life" epic romance since he obviously ends up with Lois. Plus my favorite character on the show by far is Chloe and they ruined her for me completely. They built her up in the first three seasons and then started having her completely break character too many times for me to care anymore. Plus Chloe and Clark's friendship was one of the most stable things on the show and I really hate how the writers throw anything and everything at them so they are mad at each other and have to make up. I'm sick of the writer's toying with everyone on the show. Plus when Michael Rosenbaum left as Lex Luthor, I stopped caring for the most part about anything else. Lex and Clark were interesting, their feud was great, and I enjoyed watching them go at it. The stupid Green Arrow guy who they got from a freaking soap opera cannot act at all and the whole "showdown" was pointless and dumb. Plus I hate the actress they cast for Lois. I'm ready for this show to be over because it jumped the shark a LONG time ago. |

| And now Smallville is introducing Dr. Fate and Stargirl. The costumes are pretty cool, but..this is just getting weird. Everything big is happening to Clark before he even becomes Superman.
They've moved from tweaking or updating the Superman mythos to just buggering it for the sake of possible spin-offs.
