| Blow Out I recently discovered this De Palma overlooked near classic. This movie was so sweet. Style wise this was De Palma at his best. The cinematography was just incredible. A bunch of fairly normal scenes were brought to life with style and visuals. If you love cool shots, WATCH THIS MOVIE. Its especially cool since its 20 years old.
Of course style isn't everything and this movies knows that. The script was cool too. The plot involves John Travolta playing a movie sound effects man. He accidentaly records a fatal car crash. Suddenly his world is turned upside down by conspiracies, paranoia, John Lithgow and Denis Frannz. John Lithgow sure is convincing as one mean and evil bad dude. He's such a cool actor. John Travolta is does a good job as the lead. He manages to do something a bit different while still keeping his Travolta charm. Dennis Franz does a very good sleazy dirt bag.
Of course there are reasons you haven't heard about this film. The score is awful. I honestly think it could be the worst score I've ever seen attached to a cool film. Towards the end of the film it got painful to listen to. And lastily the climax turned real cheesy. It wasn't even that the idea was bad or that they couldnt' think of a way to finish the movie. They just threw crap in at the end that sucked compared to the rest of the film.
With that said, still go see this movie. |
