well, its all about the style of music. death metal, and whatever other style by whatever names they come by require screaming. it just fits. its quite emotional in ways. IMO, its not very musical at all, especially when done for an entire song.

basically, the purspose of screaming is to give the vocal equivelant of drop D on and electric banging away with the distortion cranked.

Yeah, back when I used to be in a metal band and did main vocals/guitar, I sang about 60% of the time, and screamed/growled the other 40%. I sound kind of like Bruce Fitzhugh of Living Sacrifice when I scream, only a bit deeper. Now I'm in a punk band, and there's not really a place for my style of screaming, so I just sing, which I don't have a problem with.

Still we need some more advice, like I can scream high like throat based scream, but I have a deep voice I just can't do the low one, is there anyway to practice doing the lower scream?

By high throat based singing, do you mean like ZAO?

I can't even come close to that, my screaming voice is loooooow. I guess the best way to practice is to growl really low until you feel comfortable with it, lol. And remember it doesn't have to be much louder than your speaking voice. (it may cause you to strain your voice if you go for too much volume screaming, [obviously]).

Dan of Zao does amazing things, his voice is a level that I would love to be at but am nowhere near, I can do high screaming like, some of the stuff norma jean did, and like the agony scene guy does, but the low is just harder, I have been practicing, and I'm getting the idea,

Although I do not have a real problem with "screaming" in a song when the time is right... I tend to avoid it... in fact I can say that I have never screamed in a song... why you may ask? Do you know how damaging it is to your vocal chords?? Screaming does a lot of damage. Sadly if you have to scream in a song I know there is a proper way to do so ( I am not aware however of how to do this) So before you go screaming why not try to learn the proper way?? I mean chances are when you are 65 years old you may still have a use for singing and not for screaming... and if you scream improperly now then you will not be able to sing when you are 65... just something to think about I guess...

I don't usually scream. But when I feel compelled to do so, then you know...I do.
