A denomination is a ruling head over a group of churches that hold the same beliefs. A non denom church, as I've heard it, is basically any church that doesn't subscribe to the theories, governing standards, or "principals" of other denominations. That's how I've heard it, at least. Basically, it comes from the desire to not want to be associated with denominations, especially certain ones that go against what you believe entirely.

Most non-denominational people are prettymuch pentacostals who don't call themselves that.

This is true in my experience.

This is just an easier way of dealing with it. There are Pentacostals that are "Assemblies of God," "United Pentacostal," "Church of God," or a number of other subgroups meeting that description. Similarly there are "southern Baptists," "Free Will Baptists," etc and "PCAMerica," "PCUSA": The bigger groups are the denominations themselves. The ones I just named better fit the description denomminational conventions or denominational orginizations.

Wrong, Assemblies are non-demon. I never read of any demon. in the Bible. I would think it's better explained by people following there convictions.

Like living as the early church or what not.

I am non-denominational now after leaving the PC-USA (not to be confused with the PCA). The PC-USA was getting far too liberal for my tastes. My non-denominational church is in no way pentecostal. No tongue-speaking, dog-barking, or tail-wagging. If someone didn't know better they would probably guess it to be PCA minus the organizational attachments and minus all the committees.

Oh yeah - and Kori... LOVE the new avatar!

I would tend to agree with Jay. I'm not pentecostal persay, and the church I go to also does not engage in tongues, etc... But that being said, I'm undecided as far as my feelings on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Basically, I'm not sure where I stand, and I have not heard convincing arguments on either side of the battle that have made me sway one way or the other. The way I see being non-denominational is that I don't worry about the small questions that keep one denomination separate from another such as pentecostalism, or cessation, or any of that, but in stead, focus on Jesus, and His gift of salvation, and praising him for it.

That's why I call myself a non-denom.

Adam

A non-denominational person himself either

A. Doesn't perscribe to any particular denomination (Pentcostal, Methodist) or Sub-group of a denomination (Assemblies of God, Free Will Baptist)

Or

B. The church they goto isn't associated with a certain denomination.

B. Can be caused by the church either not agreeing with a certain docterin, haven't found a denomination to associate with, or can't due to funds (can't pay tithe of tithes to a denomination)

Even non-denominational churches will fit into some sort of catagory with a denomination, so it's either up to not finding one to associate with or not being able to pay tithe of tithes (which can be understandable in many circumstances).

There are all kinds of non-denominational churches out there aside from non-denominational pentecostal churches...
