| the calvary chapels i've gone to in san diego (just for visits) are Maranatha Chapel in Rancho Bernardo and Calvary Chapel San Diego (which is in Chula Vista...and has been for like the last ten years...go figure).
as far as i've been able to tell (from a brief reading of the website, talking to CCers i know, and listening to the pastors) the CC church actually reminds me alot of EV Free and Baptist churches as far as solidity of doctrine goes. could one (several?) of you CCers point out any major differences between CC and Baptist doctrine? apparently we both have "good food" in common...but i don't think that's really a doctrine. |

What I have noticed (again, in my experience) is that the folks in the CC that I attend truly believe in grace, whereas many of the folks in the Baptist churches I attended really only paid lip-service to it. Quote: |

Not a doctrine, but almost as important. | eh...lip-service can be found in any church regardless of the historical solemnity of the denomination...and the food is definitely important :-D |

And while lip-service can be found anywhere, when it's lip-service to grace, that can be especially dangerous.

| Calvary & Baptist Baptist? Or Calvary?
For Calvary, you can read about it in "Living Water", "Charisma vs. Charimania", and "Calvary Distinctives." They're all on-line now. For those who are interested: http://www.calvarychapel.com/costamesa/ go to multimedia and then ebooks.
I think the more concise one is in Calvary Distinctives, ch 3: empowered by the Spirit. |

The other two books, it should be noted, are teaching books by Chuck Smith, and don't necessarily reflect the "official CC stance" on the issue (though a vast majority of its pastors probably align with it).

| Calvary? Brendt, which Calvary Chapel do you attend?
Just curious, how much do you know about the history and background of Calvary Chapel?
God bless, |
