| Yeah, Calvary Chapels might be my favorite. Its so cool because you can feel the spirit in the worship without everyone getting all crazy. When I go home (Riverside) I go to Harvest Christian Fellowship, which is like the momma of all calvary chapels. Greg Laurie is the Pastor there...he is so tight. He doesnt sugar coat his messages and he knows how to present the gospel without being super harsh about it. And they have this one service called Day 7 on sunday night...yeah that's the service that sucked me in. All Together Separate used to lead worship there all the dag on time. They got some pretty tight groups that go through there, if yall are ever in the So Cal area you should check it out. Lets see, Pax 217, Bleach, Switchfoot, Priesthood, Sonicflood, Crystal Lewis, Tree 63, Salvador, Skillet all them cats have hit the stage at least once. You can watch the service on the internet if you aint in the area. Heres the link Day 7 @ Harvest
Check it out...its good times, 6pm on Sundays

| I have never been to a Calvary Chapel church, but I liked listening to them on the radio when I was in Oklahoma City for college. It really was my only spiritual venue, which is kinda sad (going to a Methodist school). So...Calvary Chapel is a denomination...in the literal sense. or is it like a cult (in the NOT-literal sense). ? I need to do more research. No one get mad.

| When I'm in the area, I like to attend Calvary Chapel South Denver in Littleton, CO. Gino Geraci is an excellent speaker and he's one of the few who can keep my brain engaged on a Sunday morning. I only get there maybe once a year, but I really enjoy it. I'm not saying I agree with every single thing they believe, but I still enjoy being there and worshiping with them and learning from Gino (he's a charactor!).
FWIW, when I was in college, I went to a Wesleyan church that had a Baptist pastor, so anything can happen . It is possible for calvinists and arminians to play together peacefully....

| WHen we lived in the Florida panhandle, we joined a Calvary Chapel fellowship in Gulf Breeze. It was SO COOL!
THe music was awesome and the teaching from the pulpit was wonderful! Verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, book-by-book.
If that's a cult, let me in!!!!!
We live in northern Alabama and the closest CC is about 100 miles away.
Bummer.
Still listen on Calvary Satellite Network!

CC is considered by some to be a denomination, but (a) isn't really and (b) is not considered as such within the churches.
In actuality, the churches are doing what they can not to be a denomination. Ironically, this means getting organized so you don't get too organized. Basically, too many non-CCers were approaching CC Costa Mesa (where CC started) with CC-type questions. So the churches are trying to organize regionally to handle these types of situations. To draw a parallel to US gov't, CC is trying to form (loose) state governments in the hopes of there not being any federal government.
This is on the front page of my church's website, and (I think) is fairly indicative of the CC churches I have come in contact with: Quote: |
We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ. We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is His (Agape) love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.
| CC churches often share resources and share fundamental beliefs, but beyond that, they make an effort not to be organized. The only description I've heard of any kind of "organization" is reference to the "what God is doing through the Calvary Chapel movement".
By the way, I attend CC Northwest in Woodstock, GA, and am in the process of re-vamping its website. But if you want to look at the old site, it's here.
Oh, and just to totally mess up perceptions, I am a Calvinist. (Though my church isn't.)

I have almost left the site cause of some of the reformed posters attitudes toward everyone else. | Take heart -- there are some Calvinists (particularly those with Arminian family members and/or close friends) who are not arrogant regarding their beliefs, and take offense at such displays.
When I and some of my friends embraced reformed theology, our Arminian friends and family would accuse us of believing that we had "arrived". Our initial reaction was shock, because we generally felt less "arrived" than before. But having seen the attitudes of some Calvinists, it is clear where they got their ideas from.
Contrary to popular belief, there is not a reason that "crabby" and "Calvinist" both start with "c". Admins: I realize that this is pushing the bounds of relevance to this thread. However, I think there is some real relevance, as I am Calvinist and attend a Calvary Chapel where most folks are not Calvinist (and don't have a problem with the difference). Not to vaunt CC churches, but I wonder how many other churches would be OK with this?
