Need movies to rent...

Well guys...I need to know some great movies to rent. I feel like I've seen everything worth seeing...

I need recommendations! All that I ask is that they do not contain gratuitous sex scenes, or make light of marital infidelity in a serious manner. I will be watching these with my wife...so no "ultraviolence" please!

Those are my requirements...you can see my Top 10 list to get a feel for me...here's a bit more..

Movies I hated
Topsy-Turvy
Forget Paris
The Road to Welville
St. Elmo's Fire

More Movies I Love
Amelie
Day of the Triffids
SW: Empire Strikes Back
Braveheart

One of my favorite genres is post-apocalyptic movies (i.e. Day of the Triffids, Omega Man, and of course... Cherry 2000 )...I'm thinking about getting "Testament" tonight, anyone seen that? Also, does anyone else have post-apocalyptic recommendations?

Thanks for any help, guys!

Please help Jonathan!

The Count of Monte Cristo is a must see, great, great movie without going overboard with the violence (people die, but not much blood or anything) or sex (no nudity, only 'implied' type of stuff), it's moralistic, and adventerous. Perfect.

I'll read the recommendations on it... My wife loved Braveheart and Gangs of New York so I am differentiating between that kind of graphic realism, and the stuff found in "Clockwork Orange", "Meet the Feebles", and "Nightmare on Elm Street"

We also like "suspenseful horror"...like Halloween, but she doesn't like slasher flicks (I love 'em)...

I hate to state the obvious, but the Mad Max films are post-apocalyptic. That reminds me. I want to add those to my movie buff list

It's been a while since I saw them...maybe I should get them again.

My problem is that I've seen so many movies, I feel like I don't see any new ones anymore...

I know what thats about. Thats why I started the movie buff thread. So I can see what movies I need to see. Anything I would recommend I would have started a thread about or mentioned in that thread.

For a good action movie, check out The Boondock Saints, or if you prefer an awesome plot watch The Usual Suspects

For a chick flick, check out Return to Me, it's a few years old, but it's the only romantic film i've ever liked.

If you want a brainless, suspense thriller I guess Resident Evil would fill that bill.
You could try out an old favorite-boiler room...provided you don't mind hearing the f-bomb dropped every other word

An excellent Post-Apocolyptic/Sci-fi movie is Pitch Black starring Vin Diesel. An entertaining action movie that was one of Diesel's first bigger roles.

What's the big deal with "The Usual Suspects"? It was another one of those movies that just pissed me off because it was so darn predictable while trying to act like it wasn't.(ala "Unbreakable")

I try to stay away from any Duchovny work that doesn't end in "Files" or "Diaries" (j/k )
If you don't like chick flicks...I order you out to the movie store... rent the following:
"Amelie"
"Sense & Sensibility (smooth Hollywood version)"
"Bridget Jones Diary"
"Cold Comfort Farm"
"The Truth about Cats and Dogs"
"Jane Eyre"
"Persuasion (mid-80's BBC)"
"Pride & Prejudice (mid-80's BBC...6 hours long)"
"Mansfield Park"
"Sixteen Candles"
"Roman Holiday"

I love chick flicks...give them a try. Romantic movies are awesome.

Mila is in that, isn't she? I haven't watched anything with her in it since "The Fifth Element"...mainly to preserve my image of her. Resident Evil is a stupid game, and I didn't expect the movie to be any better. I pretty much stay away from "brainless" horror flicks...

I don't have sensitive ears...but there is a level at which my wife starts getting irritated. That said...let me add another qualifier to my list... "No Vin Diesel movies"

That was a stupid, stupid movie. No offense, and thanks for the suggestion anyway.

It's more like brainless action. It reminded me of a crappy rip off of Aliens. So if you liked Aliens and wanna see a rip-off. Get this. Something tells me you won't like it though

I think you're just one of those people that has been plagued with the ability to figure movies out too fast. All that does is take away from your enjoyment.

Jonathan:

It's not post-apocalyptic although you could pretend it is... I just really want to recommend a 1991 movie called Mindwalk:

It's also not an action movie either (and there's no way to pretend it is!) because it is just three people talking for the whole movie.

But I have a feeling you would like it. It's available at Blockbuster.

Jay

P.S. - This is all assuming you haven't seen it already - which you probably have.

Oh jeez, my mom tries to do that all the time. If we're watching a movie together she hasn't seen yet she blurts out everything she thinks is going to happen, and occasionaly she's right. She doesn't mind ruining it for herself.

And I do that with a bunch of movies, but I find it more a fault of the movie than my own infirmity.

It really is a curse.

--If you want to talk brainless- literally- horror/action flicks, I recommend the 1960-something version of Night of the Living Dead (and not the corney 80's version or its sequels). Somehow, I came away with the impression that it could have been artistic if it hadn't been so dumb.
